The Indonesian national team suffered a 0-1 defeat against Iraq in the second match of the fourth qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup at King Abdullah Sports City Stadium (Saudi Arabia) early this morning (October 12, Vietnam time).

This defeat means that Indonesia will not be able to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, after losing to Saudi Arabia earlier. Coach Patrick Kluivert has become the focus of criticism from the media and Indonesian football fans, when he could not help his team qualify for the most attractive tournament on the planet for the first time in history.

The hashtag "Fire Kluivert" or "Kluivert go away" has been trending across social media platforms, from Twitter to Instagram. The hashtag appeared frequently in the comments section of the Indonesian national team's official account after the defeat to Iraq.

People using this hashtag expressed their disappointment with Kluivert, including the 49-year-old's strategy and player selection in the 4th qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup, which caused the archipelago team to suffer two consecutive losses.

According to Opta , in 8 matches under the Dutch strategist, the Indonesian team only won 3 victories against not-so-strong opponents such as Bahrain, China and Taiwan (China). Besides, Indonesia only had a draw against Lebanon and received 4 defeats against big teams such as Australia, Japan, Saudi Arabia and most recently Iraq.

With 11 goals scored but 15 conceded, an average of nearly 2 goals per game, Indonesia's defense is becoming an "insurmountable black spot". The winning rate is only 37.5% and the negative goal difference (-4) is an alarming number.

The defeat to Iraq was the last straw when Kluivert was criticized for his uncreative playing style, poor tactics and conservatism in the use of personnel.

"The whole purpose of changing the coach was to increase Indonesia's chances of participating in the World Cup, but it turns out Patrick Kluivert is worse than Shin Tae Yong before. No tactics, no good solutions. Patrick Kluivert must be fired immediately," an Indonesian fan expressed.

"Let's turn this into a lesson to find a coach with more experience and qualifications than Kluivert. He is useless. Hopefully in 2030 Indonesia will have a ticket to the World Cup," another fan commented.
