Lieutenant General Nguyen Truong Thang was appointed Deputy Minister of National Defense.

The Prime Minister decided to appoint Lieutenant General Nguyen Truong Thang, Commander of Military Region 7, to hold the position of Deputy Minister of National Defense.

In Decision No. 1405/QD-TTg dated June 28, 2025, the Prime Minister appointed Lieutenant General Nguyen Truong Thang, member of the Party Central Committee, Commander of Military Region 7, to hold the position of Deputy Minister of National Defense .

The decision takes effect from June 28.

New Deputy Minister of National Defense Nguyen Truong Thang was born on May 8, 1970, in Dinh Hoa ward, Thu Dau Mot town, Binh Duong province (old). He has a Bachelor's degree in Military and a senior degree in political theory.

Mr. Nguyen Truong Thang is a member of the 13th Party Central Committee.

During his career, Mr. Nguyen Truong Thang held the following positions: Deputy Division Commander and then Division Commander of Division 5, Military Region 7; Commander of Ho Chi Minh City Command; Deputy Commander of Military Region 7.

Since November 2020, Mr. Nguyen Truong Thang has held the position of Commander of Military Region 7.

With the newly appointed personnel, the Ministry of National Defense currently has 8 Deputy Ministers, including: General Nguyen Tan Cuong, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army; Senior Lieutenant General Vo Minh Luong; Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien; Senior Lieutenant General Le Huy Vinh; Senior Lieutenant General Vu Hai San; Senior Lieutenant General Pham Hoai Nam; Lieutenant General Nguyen Hong Thai; and Lieutenant General Nguyen Truong Thang.

The Minister of Defense is General Phan Van Giang.

The Prime Minister also signed three decisions appointing personnel for the Ministry of National Defense.

In Decision No. 1406/QD-TTg dated June 28, 2025, the Prime Minister appointed Major General Le Xuan The, Deputy Commander of Military Region 7, to hold the position of Commander of Military Region 7.

In Decision No. 1409/QD-TTg dated June 28, 2025, the Prime Minister appointed Major General Vu Hong Son, Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff of the Air Defense - Air Force, to hold the position of Commander of the Air Defense - Air Force.

In Decision No. 1408/QD-TTg dated June 28, 2025, the Prime Minister appointed Colonel Tran Thanh Hai, Deputy Chief of Staff of Military Region 5, to hold the position of Deputy Commander of Military Region 5.

These decisions take effect from June 28.
