The first university to stop using IELTS as a conversion factor.

On January 14th, the University of Transport and Communications announced its 2026 admissions information. A new rule this year is that candidates with IELTS scores will not have their scores converted to English scores in the admissions process.

According to the admissions plan, the school applies four admission methods to broaden opportunities for candidates.

Method 1 involves admission based on the results of the 2026 high school graduation exam and direct admission for students who have won national or international awards.

Method 2 involves a combination of high school academic results and high school graduation exam scores.

Method 3 utilizes the results of the 2026 aptitude test administered by Hanoi National University for programs in Hanoi and by Ho Chi Minh City National University for programs at its Ho Chi Minh City branch.

Method 4 involves admission based on the results of the 2026 aptitude test administered by Hanoi University of Science and Technology for certain majors in Hanoi.

According to Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thi Hoa, Head of the Examination and Quality Assurance Department at the University of Transport, this year the university has added a condition to the admission method based on high school transcripts, making it a combined admission method. Candidates must use their high school transcript scores from three years of high school for three subjects in the chosen combination, and must also achieve a score of 5.0 or higher in Mathematics in the 2026 high school graduation exam; for the Applied Mathematics major, a score of 6.0 or higher is required.

Regarding the admission combinations, at the Hanoi campus, engineering and technology majors will supplement or replace the D07 combination with the C01 combination (Mathematics, Literature, Physics). The priority policy will be adjusted to award bonus points to candidates with IELTS certificates of 5.0 or higher and candidates who have won provincial or city-level academic competitions.

The increase in enrollment quotas aims to support the opening of the Artificial Intelligence major and the expansion of high-quality training programs, affirming the university's role as a key institution in the field of smart transportation and infrastructure.

Regarding priority conditions in admission: Priority based on admission category and admission area: Implemented according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training ; Priority according to the admission plan of the University of Transport: Candidates who won first/second/third prize in the provincial/city-level excellent student competition (the time of winning the prize must not be more than 3 years from the time of admission (valid until June 30, 2026)); Candidates with an IELTS certificate of 5.0 or higher (issued after June 30, 2024);

In terms of enrollment capacity, the school plans to recruit 6,660 students for standard and high-quality training programs, along with 70 students for international joint programs.

Regarding subject combinations for admission, the school uses the following combinations: A00 (Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry), A01 (Mathematics, Physics, English), B00 (Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology), C01 (Mathematics, Literature, Physics), D01 (Mathematics, Literature, English), D03 (Mathematics, Literature, French), D07 (Mathematics, Chemistry, English), D09 (Mathematics, History, English), D10 (Mathematics, Geography, English), V00 (Mathematics, Physics, Fine Arts), V01 (Mathematics, Literature, Fine Arts), X06 (Mathematics, Physics, Informatics).

Regulations regarding the difference in admission scores between subject combinations: the admission score is based on each specific major code, and there is no difference in scores between different subject combinations.
