Growing up in the storm is a spiritual product nurtured for many years by a soldier, doctor, war veteran, and former student of the Military Medical University. Although he is an amateur writer, the book, his brainchild, is full, vivid, and attractive to readers. The characters in the book all have real-life prototypes, including himself, his comrades, colleagues, and those who have gone through life-and-death struggles to realize the dream of peace, unity, and independence for the Fatherland, and to protect a peaceful life for the people.

Stories written from the blood and fire, with the heart, about the battle full of sacrifice and loss. They were soldiers in their twenties, coming from all over the countryside, from university lecture halls, committing themselves to the front line with the spirit: "Rather sacrifice everything, than be slaves". They were present at all the key points that were fiercely attacked by the enemy: Quang Binh fire coordinates, Quang Tri Citadel, the immortal Thach Han River, Johnson ferry, Quang Da front, East - West Truong Son... The touching pages depict the brave and dedicated spirit of the team of doctors, nurses, and caregivers in the field clinics, on the Truong Son road, where the trenches were fierce.

From the roads to the battlefield, Vuong Van Tan brings vivid images of the boys and girls of Thang Long, Hung Yen, Thai Binh, Kinh Bac, and Hai Phong, putting down their pens and ink to go to the battlefield, guns in their hands, love for the Fatherland and very human emotions in their hearts. A quick kiss on the hair of a girl in her twenties, in the moment between life and death, becomes a symbol of love, of boundless respect. There are loves that blossom in the flames of war, and there are also loves that are painful, unrequited, and forever nostalgic. Love, whether short-lived or long-lasting, is still a source of great spiritual strength, giving soldiers the strength to fight selflessly for the day of total victory.

Growing up in the storm goes straight to the heart, simple yet profound, portraying the portraits of beautiful people both on the front line and in the rear. They are Truong Giang, Tran Trung, Pham Thuy Trang, female military medic Thuy Hang, Van Anh… They are brave female drivers of Truong Son who bravely overcame bombs and bullets.

Author Vuong Van Tan was born in 1946 in Co Le village, Dang Le commune, An Thi district, Hung Yen province. He enlisted in 1964 at the age of 18, right at the time when the US imperialists began their war of destruction in the North. In the 7th Regiment, Engineering Command, he participated in bandit suppression in Laos, fought on many fronts in the South, and participated in the campaign to protect the Southwestern and Northern borders in 1979.

He retired from the army in 1992 and moved to Vung Tau City. He actively participated in social activities, was the Head of the Neighborhood for many years, and Head of the Liaison Committee of Hung Yen Compatriots in Vung Tau City.
