While public high schools in Hanoi are still awaiting their admission plans, many private high schools have already begun recruiting students through early selection methods.

For example, May Academy High School (Hoang Mai district) officially released its admission application forms last weekend. A representative from the school's Admissions Office stated that this year the school will admit 675 students to grade 10 (equivalent to 16 classes) through the following methods: based on academic records and direct interviews at the school; based on the grade 10 entrance exam scores organized by the Hanoi Department of Education and Training; and based on aptitude assessment results and direct interviews at the school. The first round of admissions will take place on March 9th.

Observations show that, right from the first days of enrollment, hundreds of application forms for May Academy High School have been issued. Many parents said that Hoang Mai is a district with a very large population, and public schools have not yet met the needs of students in the area, so parents have proactively prepared opportunities at private schools for their children.

In the Plan for Mobilizing Social Resources for Investment in Education issued in 2024, the Hanoi People's Committee set a target for private schools to account for 21% of the total number of schools and 14-16% of students by 2025. Specifically, for preschool education, the target is to reach 30% of private educational institutions, corresponding to approximately 30% of the number of children attending. For general education, the target is to reach 13% of private schools, with 8% of primary school students, 7% of junior high school students, and 40% of high school students. Thus, according to this target, by 2025, Hanoi will have 40% of 9th-grade graduates attending private high schools, an increase of about 15% compared to the present.

Earlier, starting in early December 2024, many private high schools in Hanoi had already announced their enrollment information for the 2025-2026 school year, along with admission methods, to allow students and their families to prepare proactively.

Vinschool Education System has officially opened registration for the 2025-2026 school year, from preschool to high school. Phenikaa Inter-level School has announced enrollment for 10th grade in the 2025-2026 school year for two training programs: standard and high-quality. The school has not yet announced the date for application review or the enrollment quota. Doan Thi Diem High School has announced the release of 10th grade application forms from February 18, 2025. Parents and students can register in person or online. Nguyen Sieu Secondary and High School has been accepting applications for 10th grade from December 9, 2024, for students currently in 9th grade at the school and from March 17, 2025, for students from other schools. The school still has one more application period in July 2025, for students applying with their results from the 10th grade public school entrance exam organized by the Department of Education and Training…

For the 2024 admissions season, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training did not allow private schools to organize their own entrance exams; instead, they were only permitted to consider academic transcripts or the results of the public high school entrance exam. The academic transcript-based admission method was applied by all schools, and more than 40 schools also used the results of the Hanoi public high school entrance exam. However, in practice, schools still conducted aptitude tests or combined interview and talent-based selection methods to ensure the quality of incoming students.

Currently, it is already past the middle of February in the 2024-2025 school year, yet 9th-grade students in Hanoi still do not know the subject for their third entrance exam to 10th grade in the 2025-2026 school year. This is the first 10th-grade entrance exam for students graduating from junior high school under the 2018 General Education Program. Recently, following the Prime Minister 's request for localities to announce their entrance exam plans in February, representatives from the Hanoi Department of Education and Training stated that they are urgently researching and developing a draft plan for entrance exams to the first grades of the 2025-2026 school year, including 10th grade. Previously, Hanoi planned to announce the third subject for the 10th-grade entrance exam at the end of March. However, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training leadership has met and agreed that the third subject for the 10th-grade entrance exam for the 2025-2026 school year may be announced at the end of March. February 2025.
