From France, RMC Sport reports that Mbappe has finalized a financial deal with PSG, a crucial factor in allowing him to leave at the end of the season, and ensuring that the Parisian club does not lose their most valuable asset for free.
Specifically, Mbappe agreed not to receive the 80 million Euros (including various bonuses) that PSG still owes him. This is understood as a "collateral" – the price the 24-year-old striker pays to regain his freedom, even though his contract with the club has effectively expired.
According to the source, PSG still wants to extend Mbappe's contract, but the striker is said to be sticking to his original intention: to only stay until the end of this season.
Real Madrid, where Mbappe had a "date" last summer but broke his promise and intends to fulfill it next year. President Florentino Perez is waiting for that, but he wants Mbappe to take the first (and most important) step himself: leaving PSG.
Real Madrid wants to avoid causing trouble for PSG, and is also being more cautious after Mbappe's "change of heart" last summer.
Earlier this month, Diario AS revealed that negotiations were underway between the La Liga giants and Mbappe, and the 24-year-old striker was expected to earn a massive salary of €35 million per season after tax.
And with his move to the Bernabeu as a free agent, Mbappe will certainly receive a substantial signing bonus, after agreeing to pay PSG 80 million Euros as collateral for his departure.
Mbappe is expected to make an official announcement about his future depending on PSG's progress in the Champions League this season.
