Speaking with Tuoi Tre, Mr. Nguyen Duc Huy - Deputy Head of the Professional Department (Tax Department, Ministry of Finance ) - confirmed this.

Mr. Huy said: "According to the Law on Tax Administration, from 1 to 7 business households, individual businesses, salaried employees, and dependents will use citizen identification numbers as tax codes instead of current tax codes.

We are moving towards international practice that every person born will have a citizen identification number. So this citizen identification number is also the tax code. Thus, a person has only one tax code, which is the citizen identification number.

Terminate a person with multiple tax identification numbers

* What benefits does this conversion bring to taxpayers?

- Using identification numbers as tax codes will help taxpayers not have to remember too many numbers. Now people only need to remember one number, which is the citizen identification number. With tax procedures, from July 1st, from declaring, looking up, paying taxes... taxpayers only need to declare the citizen identification number without having to remember tax codes like before.

The citizen identification number is also used to carry out all public administrative procedures such as insurance... Thus, people can carry out administrative procedures much faster and more conveniently than before.

For the tax sector, using citizen identification numbers as tax codes will help tax authorities improve tax management efficiency in a comprehensive, accurate and synchronized manner with taxpayer data nationwide. At the same time, the unified linked data also helps tax authorities promptly detect cases of tax evasion, false income declaration or abuse of tax policies.

On the other hand, replacing the tax code with the citizen identification number also helps the tax industry promote digital transformation. This is a big step forward in modernizing the tax industry, reducing paperwork and moving towards building a smart tax management system, comprehensive digitalization...

* So what procedures must taxpayers follow to convert their citizen identification number into a tax code?

- In case the taxpayer has information about full name; citizen identification number; date of birth that matches the national population database, no procedures need to be performed. The Tax Department will automatically convert on the tax management system. Taxpayers use citizen identification number instead of tax code from July 1.

For tax registration from July 1, taxpayers only need to declare three pieces of information: full name; date of birth; citizen identification number. The tax authority's system will automatically update.

The Tax Department also recommends that taxpayers proactively check whether their tax registration information matches the national population database. To check the information, taxpayers can look it up on the Tax Department's website at: https://www.gdt.gov.vn.

The second way is to look up on the electronic tax website of the Tax Department at: thuedientu.gdt.gov.vn.

Another way is to look up on the individual's electronic tax transaction account on the VNeID or eTax Mobile application (if the individual has been granted an electronic tax transaction account with the tax authority). Or the taxpayer can contact the tax authority directly managing the individual or the tax authority where the individual resides for support.

65 million tax codes have been matched correctly

* Only a few days left until July 1st, could you tell us how many tax codes nationwide have been matched with the national population database?

- Currently, the tax management system of the tax authority is managing nearly 81 million tax codes. As I said above, these are tax codes of salaried employees, tax codes of business households, of individual businesses, of dependents...

Since 2023, the tax authority has reviewed data on individual taxpayers, households and individual businesses. In particular, the Tax Department has coordinated with the Department of Administrative Police for Social Order (C06) under the Ministry of Public Security to review and standardize tax code data with the national population database.

Of those nearly 81 million tax codes, about 65 million have been standardized. The remaining 15 million tax codes have not been verified because they do not have citizen identification information or do not match citizen identification data.

The number of unstandardized tax codes is mainly for dependents of taxpayers. The tax authority has also coordinated with C06 to urge the local tax authorities and police agencies and local authorities to review and update these personal tax codes promptly when tax obligations arise.

In short, basically, individuals with regular income and business households have tax codes that have been reviewed and standardized to match the national population database. The conversion from tax codes to citizen identification cards is guaranteed to be ready from July 1, without any problems. In cases where there is more than one tax code, the tax industry calls on taxpayers to update themselves online, which I mentioned several ways above.

* Does a business household need to change its business registration certificate when the citizen identification number replaces the tax code?

- Business households that are operating and paying taxes normally basically have 100% matching of the business owner's citizen identification number with the information on the national population database. Recently, the tax authority has coordinated with the business registration authority and C06 to review, update, standardize and share data of the three sectors.

Therefore, when using citizen identification as tax code, the system will automatically update on the business registration certificate. From July 1, business households use the citizen identification of the household head to perform all public services, including tax procedures.

What should an individual with more than 1 tax code do?

In case an individual has been issued more than one tax code, the taxpayer must update the citizen identification number information for the issued tax codes.

Tax authorities integrate tax codes into citizen identification numbers, consolidating taxpayers' tax data. And from July 1, taxpayers only need to use their citizen identification numbers to carry out tax procedures.

In fact, due to previous management requirements, many taxpayers have more than one tax code to track each tax obligation. Such as tax code for income from wages and salaries; tax code for rental households, tax code to pay non- agricultural land use tax...
