Coastal Road: From Tourist Road to Ninh Thuan's Economic Corridor
The coastal route not only effectively serves tourism development, but according to Ninh Thuan province's planning, this is also one of the three important economic development corridors of the locality.

Tourist route
Nearly 10 years ago, on April 16, 2015, the People's Committee of Ninh Thuan province held the inauguration ceremony of Ninh Thuan coastal road with a total length of 106.4 km and a total investment of 4,551.3 billion VND.
The project starts at the intersection with National Highway 1A in Cong Hai Commune, Thuan Bac District, bordering Khanh Hoa Province; and ends at the intersection with National Highway 1A in Ca Na Commune, Thuan Nam District, near the border of Binh Thuan Province.
Mr. Nguyen Duc Thanh, Secretary of Ninh Thuan Provincial Party Committee, once acknowledged that the coastal route contributes to better exploiting the potential and advantages of Ninh Thuan's sea and coastal areas, especially the potential for renewable energy and tourism.
And after nearly 10 years, when talking about Ninh Thuan tourism, we must mention the picturesque coastal road, winding around with beautiful coastline, attracting tourists to drive themselves to experience and conquer.
Mr. Truong Van Tien, Director of the Center for Investment, Trade and Tourism Promotion of Ninh Thuan province, affirmed that the coastal route is considered one of the most beautiful coastal routes in Vietnam, passing through the South is a special rocky mountain forest area, a very special dry forest. A little further is the Nui Chua World Biosphere Reserve. From Binh Tien beach to Vinh Hy bay, Thai An grape village, there are many stops such as Hang Rai area, stone park area...
“The coastal road plays a role in connecting tourist spots,” said Mr. Tien.
Sharing the same view, Mr. Nguyen Van Hoa, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Ninh Thuan province, said that the core for developing tourism in Ninh Thuan province is the coastal road. Specifically, besides playing the role of a security, defense and economic road, the coastal road is also the lifeline connecting tourist destinations.
According to the Ninh Thuan tourism industry website (ninhthuantourism.vn), route DT.701 (the long coastal road connecting Phan Rang - Thap Cham city to Ca Na) and route DT.702 (the coastal road from Phan Rang - Thap Cham city to Cam Ranh city, Khanh Hoa province) are advised as 2 of more than 70 famous and unique scenic spots and tourist destinations in Ninh Thuan "waiting for you to explore".

Not just a destination, as
Associate Professor, Dr. Phan Quoc Anh (former Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Ninh Thuan province) once analyzed that if in the past, when calling for investment in sea tourism, Ninh Thuan had to "roll out the red carpet" to welcome investors, then since the coastal road was started, the province has the right to choose investors.
According to the Department of Planning and Investment of Ninh Thuan province, to date, the province has 56 tourism projects (investment capital of VND 52,469.2 billion) that have been granted investment policy decisions or investment registration certificates. Of these, 24 projects (VND 3,971.5 billion) have been completed and put into operation; 19 projects (VND 39,660.7 billion) have been implemented; 13 projects (VND 8,837 billion) have not been implemented.
In the 3 years of 2021-2023 alone, the capital from economic sectors invested in tourism projects is 36,908.3 billion VND, with 23 projects. To date, 7 projects (1,940.5 billion VND) have been completed and put into operation; 10 projects (31,239.8 billion VND) are under construction and 6 projects (3,728 billion VND) are completing legal procedures for implementation.
Projects under construction include Binh Tien Tourist Area; Ninh Chu Sailing Bay; Mui Dinh Ecopark; Sunbay Park Hotel & Resort; Long Thuan Hotel – Villas Ninh Thuan…
The Department of Planning and Investment of Ninh Thuan province said that many large-scale, high-class tourism projects have been put into effective operation such as Nam Nui Chua Eco-tourism Area, Hoan My Tourist Area, Long Thuan Tourist Area, TTC Resort Premium - Ninh Thuan...
The common point of these projects is that they are all located along the coastal route DT.702.
Important corridor
When reporters asked about the infrastructure project that helped Ninh Thuan transform, Mr. Nguyen Van Vinh, Director of the Department of Transport of Ninh Thuan province, said that in the period of 2010 - 2020, the coastal road project created a "boost" for the socio-economic development of the locality, attracting large investors to come here.
“The coastal road project has created a sea corridor and developed the marine economy. The project creates a premise for developing the marine economy,” said Mr. Vinh.
Up to now, in the important planning of the province, Ninh Thuan has identified the role and orientation of exploiting the coastal route. In particular, it can be seen that Ninh Thuan focuses on exploiting the potential of the DT.701 road section (previously serving the planning of 2 nuclear power plant projects).
Specifically, on July 21, 2022, the People's Committee of Ninh Thuan province developed a Plan to implement the Construction Zoning Planning Project (scale 1/2000) of Mui Dinh area, Thuan Nam district, Ninh Thuan province.
According to this plan, Ninh Thuan aims to develop projects in the direction of creating connections between regions through traffic projects. Specifically, the province will upgrade and expand the road leading to the project and auxiliary traffic routes, connecting to neighboring areas, in which DT.701 is the main coastal route.
“Tourism projects mainly follow this route. The route has been completed and put into use, contributing to facilitating investment attraction to areas that have not yet attracted investors, as well as facilitating tourists’ access to tourist areas during their stay in the province,” Plan No. 3192 clearly states.
The resort projects that have been and are being implemented in this planning area include Mui Dinh Ecopark Tourist Area, Mui Dinh Bay Tourist Area, Ba Be Lake Resort, Mui Dinh Sun Resort, Royal Ninh Thuan Luxury Resort, Ca Na Star Eco-tourism Area.
Ninh Thuan province's planning for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050, identifies that, among the province's three economic development corridors, the coastal development corridor is planned along the coastal route (DT.701, DT.702) from North to South and the coastal area.
The corridor is planned to develop tourism mainly associated with the World Biosphere Reserve of Nui Chua National Park, developing distinct tourism products associated with 6 coastal urban areas (Vinh Hy, Thanh Hai, Khanh Hai, Phan Rang - Thap Cham, Son Hai, Ca Na) and tourist urban areas, coastal functional areas specified in the planning of Ninh Chu national tourist area.
Mr. Tran Quoc Nam, Chairman of Ninh Thuan Provincial People's Committee informed that the planning focuses on developing 3 corridors, including expressways, coastal routes and expanding development along the East-West axis to create regional and inter-regional connections...
“The province identifies the Southern Key Economic Zone as a new growth pole, an important driving force to promote the province's potential and advantages in terms of seaports, dry ports, logistics service centers, industrial parks, urban areas, and tourism, aiming to have enough conditions to establish a coastal economic zone in the country by 2025,” said Mr. Nam.
According to the provincial planning, Ninh Thuan plans to establish the Southern Coastal Economic Zone (with an expected scale of about 43,900 hectares) in the Southern Key Economic Zone of Ninh Thuan province, in the districts of Thuan Nam and Ninh Phuoc.
Towards the above goal, in Thuan Nam district, a series of large projects are being implemented. These projects all have in common that they are connected to the coastal route (adjacent to or at the end of the project).
Accordingly, the Ca Na Integrated Seaport Project Phase I, invested by Trung Nam Construction Investment Joint Stock Company, with a total planning area of 85.52 hectares and a total investment of VND 5,626.9 billion, has been completed and put into operation.
Two important traffic projects with endpoints connecting to the coastal route include the Van Lam - Son Hai Road Project, with a total investment of VND372.5 billion and a length of more than 13 km, nearing completion; the North - South Expressway Connection Project with National Highway 1 and Ca Na General Seaport, with a total investment of VND903 billion and a length of 14.7 km, under construction.
Or Dam Ca Na Urban Area Project invested by ACT Holdings Joint Stock Company, total area of 64.46 hectares, total investment of about 4,490.85 billion VND, is under construction.
These projects continue to affirm the role and importance of the coastal route in the coming time.
