IPW Impressions - The Leading Travel Exhibition
IPW (International Pow Wow) is considered the world's leading travel trade show, organized annually by the U.S. Travel Association since 1969. The event rotates between major U.S. cities, aiming to promote a diverse range of domestic destinations.
Participants – including travel companies, airlines, hotels/resorts, tourist destinations, technology providers, and promotional organizations – have the opportunity to meet in person with thousands of potential buyers, media outlets, and international strategic partners.
From a simple conference, IPW has evolved into an icon of the global travel industry, facilitating over 100,000 business meetings annually and driving billions of dollars in future travel revenue.
For each IPW event, the organizers begin engaging with guests more than six months in advance, providing a diverse list of experiential activities. For example, the upcoming IPW 2026 event in Greater Fort Lauderdale, Florida this coming May – which began in the fall of 2025 – is expected to attract over 5,000 international travel and media professionals from more than 70 countries.
As a delegate from Da Nang City who had the opportunity to experience IPW Los Angeles 2024 and IPW Chicago 2025, Ms. Tan My Hanh, Member of the Executive Committee of the Da Nang Travel Association and Director of Asian Companion Travel Company, said: “From the first days of arriving in Los Angeles until after the event, guests continuously had unique and fascinating experiences, as well as diverse discoveries about the city, in addition to meetings and connections with service providers within the framework of the large-scale exhibition program, which included nearly 7,000 tourism businesses from around the world.”
“IPW is a vivid example of the power of integrated tourism, where the economy meets culture, and business combines with experiences to create sustainable value. This encourages destinations to be innovative in their methods of promoting and organizing tourism activities,” Ms. Hanh observed.
The potential for developing Da Nang as a tourism exhibition destination.
With its advantages in infrastructure and a modern, developed tourism foundation, Da Nang city is gradually becoming a new destination, attracting exhibitions, conferences, and seminars specializing in tourism.
In 2025, the city hosted several major events. These activities attracted over 10,000 attendees, including leading experts in tourism and technology, and visitors from more than 30 countries around the world.
According to Mr. Nguyen Duc Quynh, Chairman of the Da Nang Hotel Association and General Director of Furama Resort: “Through each specialized event organized, many new cooperative relationships are formed, along with new business models, technological solutions, and service standards that are exchanged, tested, and implemented. This becomes a leverage to promote innovation for the entire tourism industry, laying the foundation for Da Nang to become a center for advanced solutions and resources in the industry.”
The gathering of leading businesses in the hospitality, tourism, food and service, and technology sectors, along with foreign partners, demonstrates that Da Nang not only possesses comprehensive infrastructure but also the professional organizational capacity for large-scale events with in-depth expertise.
Andre Pierre, CEO of HORECFEX Vietnam, said: “Da Nang being continuously chosen to host this event affirms the city's position as a leading convention and exhibition center in the country and further elevates its standing on the international MICE map.”
Looking ahead, to establish Da Nang as the "World Tourism Exhibition Destination," Mr. Nguyen Duc Quynh believes the city needs to implement three pillars simultaneously: firstly, content and professional depth, with themes closely aligned with global issues such as sustainable tourism, digital transformation, ESG, artificial intelligence, and high-end customer experience.
Secondly, it involves expanding the scale and level of internationalization, transforming tourism exhibitions into annual gatherings for event organizers, businesses, and global tourism partners.
Thirdly, it's about the destination experience, where each event not only takes place in the conference space but also offers a holistic journey of experiencing the services, culture, and people of Da Nang.
