In the initial report on planning railway routes and stations in the key areas of Ho Chi Minh City, the consulting consortium of Southern Transport Design Consulting Joint Stock Company (TEDI South) and the Transport Investment and Development Consulting Center (CCTDI) proposed the main freight stations at the city's key areas.
Accordingly, An Binh station (Di An city, Binh Duong province) is a freight train station, operating for the entire railway network in the Ho Chi Minh City hub; at the same time, it is the main freight station of Ho Chi Minh City and Binh Duong province; oriented to be a station with international transit functions.
An Binh Station functions as a hub station for both passengers and freight for the newly constructed 1,435mm gauge line and the existing 1,000mm gauge North-South railway. The station is also planned to build facilities for repairing, preparing, and using locomotives and freight cars; receiving and sending freight trains; and is a technical passenger station for 1,000mm gauge passenger and freight trains.
Expected cargo terminal and seaport connection, ICD according to consultant's proposal.
Trang Bom Station (Trang Bom District, Dong Nai Province) is a northern freight train station supporting An Binh Station for freight flows to the north; is a hub station, transiting goods of the North - South Thong Nhat railway line (1,000mm gauge) with the entire railway network of the Ho Chi Minh City hub (1,435mm gauge). It is a station participating in multimodal transportation and connection from Trang Bom dry port (ICD) to Cai Mep and Thi Vai international seaport clusters ( Ba Ria - Vung Tau Province). In the future, it can organize domestic - suburban passengers, transfer national and urban passengers.
Thanh Duc Station (Ben Luc District, Long An Province) is a freight hub station that is expected to establish a southern freight train to support An Binh and Tan Kien stations for freight flows between Hiep Phuoc Port and Can Tho in the future, when the railway along Ring Road 4 is formed. It is a rail connection station of the dedicated railway line to Hiep Phuoc Port, Long An Port serving the loading and unloading of goods for Ben Luc and Long An industrial and high-tech zones. Thanh Duc Station is also a mixed passenger and freight station.
Tan Kien Station (Binh Chanh District, Ho Chi Minh City) is a passenger hub station in the south of the city but is also a mixed passenger-freight station. It is a station for train formation, train dissolution, and freight transport from Ho Chi Minh City to the West, Tay Ninh, the North and vice versa; organizing the repair, preparation, and use of locomotives and freight cars.
According to the consultant's proposal, freight trains entering the Ho Chi Minh City hub will run along the belt railway: the route parallel to Ring Road 2 (Ho Chi Minh City - Can Tho route) or the route following Ring Road 4.
On the railway line following Ring Road 4, stations will be planned to serve the loading and unloading of goods for industrial parks, ICD dry ports and to supply goods to serve the needs of the city. Consumer goods after being loaded and unloaded at the cargo stations' yards (or at the general cargo transfer warehouse) will be transferred to small trucks, along the road belt and radial routes to the city center and distributed to areas within the city.
Along with the arrangement of the freight station, the consultant also proposed to supplement the planning of the railway line connecting Bien Hoa - Vung Tau railway line to Phuoc An port (Dong Nai province) and planned railway connections to seaports and ICD ports.
Specifically, connecting with seaports: Phuoc An, Thi Vai Sub-Port, Thi Vai - Cai Mep, Hiep Phuoc, Long An; ICDs: Tan Uyen, Long Binh, Trang Bom, Tan Cang Song Than, Moc Bai, Cu Chi, Tan Kien, Ben Luc...
