Facing an opponent from Europe with superior physique and good defensive ability, coach Nguyen Thi Ngoc Hoa asked her players to focus and finish effectively from the start. However, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team started slowly and lost the first set 23-25.
Not letting the situation repeat itself, the trio of main attackers Nguyen Thi Uyen, Nguyen Thi Phuong and opposite Hoang Thi Kieu Trinh shined in the next two sets. The Vietnamese hitters continuously scored points thanks to their accurate finishing ability. The Vietnamese women's volleyball team took a comeback lead with a score of 2-1 after winning 25-20 and 25-23.
However, the Dutch U21 team managed to adjust their tactics in the fourth set. The girls from Europe took advantage of their height and ability to block to tie the game 2-2 with a 25-23 victory. In the deciding set, coach Nguyen Thi Ngoc Hoa's students played resiliently but still lost 12-15.
In the end, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team lost 2-3 to the Netherlands U21. With this result, coach Nguyen Thi Ngoc Hoa and her team will enter the third-place match against the Shanghai U21 youth team (China).
Compared to last year's tournament, when they only ranked 5th, reaching the semi-finals this year shows the clear progress of Vietnamese women's volleyball in the process of rejuvenating the force and improving international level.
