The English enhancement program has been implemented in Ho Chi Minh City for a long time, but it is still a reputable program with affordable prices.
If parents want their children to study an English-enhanced program from grade 1, how should they register? Do students need to know English beforehand? What conditions must be met for students from grade 5 to grade 6 who have not studied this program? - some parents wonder.
Mr. Duong Van Dan - Head of the Departmentof Education and Training of District 8 - replied : In each district, the regulations on admission to the English enhancement program for grades 1 and 6 may be different.
In District 8, 21 elementary schools in District 8 all enroll first grade students in the English enhancement program.
According to the 2018 general education program, English is taught from grade 3, but this year, parents whose children are entering grade 1 and want to study the English enhancement program only need to register with the school. Based on the voluntary registration of parents, the school will arrange classes.
Usually, parents let their children take English intensive classes to improve their English ability and see that their children have a talent for English. Every week, students in English intensive classes will have 5 English lessons, including several lessons with foreign teachers. Students will study the program from grade 1 until grade 5.
For students from grade 5 to grade 6 who want to study the English enhancement program, they must meet the required entry requirements.
For students who have completed grade 5 and are not enrolled in an English enrichment program for primary school, one of the following international certificates is required: Pearson PEIC (PTE Young Learners) Young Learners Quickmarch with a minimum of Pass level - 3/5 stars or higher; or Flyers: 10 shields or higher; or TOEFL Primary: a minimum of 3 badges on the TOEFL Primary step 2 test or other international certificates with a level of A2 or higher.
For students who have completed grade 5 of the primary English enhancement program, the average score for the English enhancement program for the whole year is 6.0 or higher. In which, the total score for each skill subject (listening, speaking, reading, writing) is 6.0 or higher. Pearson PEIC (PTE Young Learners) Young Learners Quickmarch certificate is from Pass level - minimum number of stars 3/5 stars or higher or Flyers: over 10 shields.
In District 8, enrollment in grade 6 of the English enhancement program is being carried out at Duong Ba Trac, Khanh Binh, Chanh Hung, Suong Nguyet Anh, Binh An, Ly Thanh Tong, Tung Thien Vuong, Phu Loi and Le Lai secondary schools.
