The waste collection rate in Hoa Lac averages 99%.

In the first five months of 2026, environmental sanitation work in Hoa Lac commune achieved many positive results, with the rate of household waste collection and transportation reaching an average of 99%, and some long-standing waste accumulation points being completely resolved.

However, illegal dumping and spontaneous burning of waste still occur in some areas, affecting the living environment and urban aesthetics.

According to the Hoa Lac Commune Investment and Infrastructure Project Management Board, prior to February 2026, environmental sanitation in the area was carried out by a joint venture between Xuan Mai Urban Environment Company and Son Tay Urban Environment Joint Stock Company. The collection and transportation of household waste was regularly maintained throughout all roads and alleys.

The rate of household waste collection to temporary collection points averages 98%; the rate of household waste transported to the city's centralized treatment facility is approximately 95%. However, there are still some "black spots" of waste causing environmental pollution and public dissatisfaction.

From March 2026 to the present, Ha Dong Urban Environment Joint Stock Company has been responsible for maintaining environmental sanitation in the commune. Approximately 1,656 tons of household waste have been transported to the processing facility, averaging 18 tons per day, achieving a rate of 99%. Manual waste collection in alleys and side streets has been carried out promptly; street and sidewalk cleaning, using a combination of mechanical and manual methods, has been regularly maintained on main traffic routes.

Notably, from March to the present, Hoa Lac has completely resolved long-standing spontaneous garbage dumping "hotspots," such as the area at the foot of the Thang Long Boulevard overpass in Hamlet 2, where up to 40 tons of garbage had accumulated. This area had been a spontaneous garbage dump since around 2016, causing serious environmental pollution. With efforts to eliminate this environmental sanitation "bottleneck," by March 2026, all accumulated garbage had been transported for processing, the area leveled, fenced off, and signs prohibiting garbage dumping installed, preventing recurrence of violations.

According to Nguyen Giap Dan, Deputy Director of the Investment and Infrastructure Project Management Board of Hoa Lac Commune, in addition to the achievements, environmental sanitation work in the area still has some shortcomings such as: On some roads, after garbage collection, workers do not clean up the base of the garbage piles; the workforce and vehicles serving sanitation work are still insufficient, affecting garbage collection and transportation. Notably, some people deliberately dump garbage in unauthorized places and burn garbage spontaneously, causing environmental pollution and posing potential safety risks.

To address the existing issues, Hoa Lac commune requested the environmental sanitation unit to increase manpower and equipment, carry out thorough cleaning after collection, and ensure all garbage is collected within the day. At the same time, the commune is stepping up propaganda and mobilization efforts to raise public awareness of environmental hygiene and to share the difficulties, given that the commune currently only has one temporary garbage collection point.

In particular, the People's Committee of Hoa Lac commune has instructed specialized agencies, the commune police, and villages to strengthen inspections and strictly handle violations of environmental sanitation regulations in order to put an end to illegal dumping and burning of garbage, contributing to building a greener, cleaner, and more beautiful environment in Hoa Lac.
