According to the report on the implementation of tasks in the first four months of 2026 by the Department of Chemicals, the unit is actively coordinating the implementation of Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW. The Department is focusing on researching and developing major projects including: a list of strategic technologies, strategic products, and orientations for the development of science, technology, and innovation for the industry.
Notably, the development orientation is focusing on areas such as pure and ultra-pure chemicals serving the semiconductor, electronics, pharmaceutical, and advanced materials industries. These areas all have high added value and play a crucial role in the industrial restructuring process.
Speaking with a reporter from the Industry and Trade Newspaper, chemical expert Do Thanh Bai, Director of the Center for Environmental Protection and Chemical Safety (Vietnam Chemical Society), said that the chemical industry is one of the fields that has embraced science and technology very early on due to the specific nature of production requiring high technical standards.
According to Mr. Do Thanh Bai, innovation is the key to helping the chemical industry improve its technological capabilities and production techniques. However, this also means accepting risks, because when implementing new technologies, the possibility of failure always exists.
"The major challenges today lie in both finance and human resources, from policy-making bodies to research teams and businesses. At the same time, coordinated efforts are needed from all parties; we cannot rely solely on the State or individual businesses," Mr. Do Thanh Bai emphasized.
Businesses proactively embrace digital transformation.
According to the report, the Department of Chemicals also held direct meetings with numerous businesses, associations, and research units in the fields of basic chemicals, petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, and storage batteries to survey practical situations and discuss solutions to promote science, technology, and innovation.
Many chemical companies have proactively implemented digital transformation for many years under the pressure of integration and the demands of the international market.
According to expert Do Thanh Bai, many chemical companies have proactively implemented these measures for a long time. “Businesses have been carrying out many activities related to digital transformation, information transparency, and quality management for many years to serve exports and integration. Therefore, it can be said that the current level of readiness of businesses is quite high,” said Mr. Do Thanh Bai.
From a business perspective, Mr. Nguyen Quoc An, Deputy General Director of Lam Thao Superphosphate and Chemical Joint Stock Company, stated that the company has identified digital transformation as a key objective since the 2020-2025 period.
According to Mr. Nguyen Quoc An, to meet the requirements of digital transformation, businesses must synchronize the entire operational chain from production input to distribution to the market. To achieve this, businesses need to invest in machinery and equipment, human resources, and distribution systems.
According to him, synchronizing data and management systems serves both production and is directly related to sales policies, customer care, and the end consumer.
"Along with the digital transformation of the chemical industry, market demands are shifting towards increasing transparency and accessibility of product information. This requires businesses to accelerate technology adoption, improve management, and enhance their adaptability to new consumer trends," Mr. An emphasized.
According to experts, the current digital transformation process is changing corporate governance practices and impacting the entire production-distribution-consumption chain of the chemical industry.
