The story of billionaire Ratan Tata's will caused a big surprise when he decided to leave most of his fortune to his pet dog. This action is a testament to the kind heart and love of animals of the talented businessman.

The world was shocked by the news that billionaire Ratan Tata passed away in a hospital in Mumbai (India) earlier this month, at the age of 86. He was known for turning the Tata Group into one of the largest corporations in the world. As a person who never married or had children, his fortune of about £91 million (VND2,991 trillion) would normally be divided among his siblings.

However, the former chairman of the Tata Group decided to leave the majority of his fortune to his German Shepherd, Tito, bypassing his brother Jimmy Tata and his sisters Shireen and Deanna Jejeebhoy. According to the Times, Mr Tata's will stated that his dog, butler Konar Subbiah, and assistant and chef Rajan Shaw would inherit the majority of his fortune. His siblings would only inherit a small portion.

Leaving such a large sum to pets and servants is rare in India, where wealth is usually passed down within the family. In his will, Mr. Tata stressed that there should be provisions for “lifelong care” for his beloved dog, who was his close companion until his final moments.

The move was in keeping with Mr Tata’s lifelong love of animals, with security guards at the Tata Group headquarters even told not to chase away any stray animals.

Mr Tata's close friend, Mr Suhel Seth, said the amount of money inherited by the butler and chef (both in their 50s and currently looking after Tito) was huge. “He gave them a very, very generous pension. They would never have to work again and would be very well taken care of,” Seth told the Times.

The instructions in the will did not surprise those who knew Mr Tata well, he added, because "This will is not a testament to wealth but a tribute to joy and care."   that his pets and two closest assistants had given him".

Mr. Tata's passing has left an immense sorrow in the hearts of the Indian people. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised him as "a visionary business leader, a compassionate soul and an extraordinary human being."

Google CEO Sundar Pichai also paid tribute: "Ratan Tata left behind an extraordinary legacy of business and philanthropy, and was instrumental in mentoring and developing the modern generation of business leaders in India." "In my last meeting with Ratan Tata at Google, we talked about the growth of Waymo and his vision was truly inspiring. He is passionate about making India a better place," Pichai shared on X.
