Coach Kim Sang-sik: Must fight for the fans

"The Vietnamese team is going through a tight schedule, but the players are all very focused. We are playing like a true team. To the fans, I would like to thank them for coming to the stadium and always supporting the team. We will be determined to play well in tomorrow's match," coach Kim Sang-sik told the press at noon on December 28, ahead of the second leg of the semi-final against Singapore.

Vietnam won 2-0 away against Singapore in the first leg of the semi-final at Jalan Besar Stadium. This result helped the team put one foot in the final, while maintaining an unbeaten record (4 wins, 1 draw).

As long as they do not lose by more than 1 goal, the Vietnamese team will be in the AFF Cup final for the third time in the last 4 tournaments. However, Mr. Kim Sang-sik affirmed that the whole team will not be complacent.

"We won 2-0 in the first leg and have one foot in the final. However, the 2-0 score is still dangerous. The Vietnamese team understands that the second leg of the semi-final will not be easy, so we need to prepare and anticipate all problems. We will try our best when playing at home," coach Kim Sang-sik assessed.

When asked about the difference when working with Vietnamese and Korean players, Mr. Kim commented: "I think Korean and Vietnamese players are the same. Some people say I am successful, but I understand that I still have a long journey to go through, and this tournament is just the starting point. The Vietnamese players always follow my tactics. We can go further not only thanks to me, but also thanks to the players. In the immediate future, we will fight to win the second leg of the semi-finals."

The Korean strategist affirmed that the home field is the fulcrum for the Vietnamese team to defeat Singapore.

The Vietnam team will be more excited when playing at Viet Tri stadium.

"The whole team has to play their best at home. We have the support of our fans, so we will fight like we have always done to overcome difficulties. We are a team and will do our best for tomorrow's match," coach Kim Sang-sik added.

Singapore plays long balls very well

Besides being cautious, coach Kim Sang-sik also analyzed Singapore's playing style carefully. He hopes that the Vietnamese team will defend well in long ball situations.

"In the first half of the match against Singapore, we could not score. Luckily, in the second half, the Vietnamese team tried hard. We have analyzed to understand Singapore's attack style, so we are ready for tomorrow's match. Hopefully, the players will be able to overcome the Singaporean opponent. They play long balls very well, so the players need to create pressure on the Singaporean side of the field," Mr. Kim further analyzed.

"We couldn't score in the first half of the previous matches. I don't think this is a problem, but simply the players were unlucky. We created many chances, but couldn't convert them into goals. However, the players are training well. In the second leg against Singapore, I will make adjustments to make the Vietnamese team stronger," coach Kim Sang-sik concluded.
