U Minh used to be a mysterious land in the south, famous for its sacred forests, poisonous water, and poisonous air. This place is often compared to U Minh hell, where the scenery is mysterious, gloomy, and endlessly desolate, causing legends and myths to often have a surreal, supernatural color. The author said that these stories were collected and recorded according to the stories of elderly local people who have been attached to the U Minh area all their lives.
The book comes with many impressive illustrations by artist Tat Sy.

Most of the stories are based on real places, where the shapes of many relics and landscapes have been imagined and adapted by people. For example, the shapes of the caves in Da Dung and Thach Dong mountains in Ha Tien are the source of Thach Sanh’s story of fighting the snake spirit and the eagle spirit; while Thuong Luong canal (belonging to Dong Hung commune, An Minh district, Kien Giang ), Hon Tre island (Kien Hai district, Kien Giang), Dinh Cau cape (Phu Quoc island)… also have similar thrilling and attractive stories.
However, people are not always exalted, but sometimes it is pride ( The Curse of the Lord of the Sacred Forest ), disobedience ( The Boy ), laziness ( Hon Rua ), hot-temperedness ( Hon Phu Tu ) ... that causes so much suffering. Through that, it can be seen that from very early on, these stories not only reflect the past, but also carry valuable lessons and messages to pass on to the next generation. In addition, many stories are also the inspiration for writer Son Nam to write short stories in the famous collection Huong rung Ca Mau ...

U Minh legend is not only valuable as a record and synthesis, but also shows other intersections in literary creation, cultural exchange as well as the lives of people in a bygone era.
