On December 11, Ukraine's use of US long-range ATACMS missiles to attack a Russian airport angered not only Moscow but also US President-elect Donald Trump.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry , Ukraine used six ATACMS missiles to attack a military airport in Taganrog, a port city in the Rostov region, southern Russia, on the coast of the Sea of Azov.
"Two of these missiles were shot down by the Pantsir air defense system, the remaining missiles were intercepted by electronic warfare equipment," the ministry said.
Although no servicemen were injured, falling shrapnel caused “light damage” to nearby military vehicles and buildings, prompting Russia to say it would respond “at the appropriate time and in the appropriate manner.”
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said: “I would like to reiterate the absolutely clear and direct statement issued by the Russian Defense Ministry yesterday, which clearly stated that there will be a response. The response, of course, will take place at the appropriate time and in the appropriate manner and will certainly take place.”
Ukraine's actions also drew harsh criticism from US President-elect Donald Trump, when he gave an interview to Time magazine on December 12.
"What's going on is crazy. It's crazy! I strongly disagree with launching missiles hundreds of miles deep into Russian territory. Why would you do that? We're only escalating this conflict and making it worse. That shouldn't be allowed to happen," he stressed.
However, the President-elect also affirmed that the US will "not abandon Ukraine", because such support is necessary and is the only way to achieve a peaceful solution to the conflict.
The 47th White House boss added that if he were still in office in 2022, this special military operation would not have begun "for many reasons".
