According to RT, on Monday, Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu announced that he had taken full control of Maryinka, a town located just west of Donetsk. The town was once a major stronghold of the Ukrainian army. After fierce fighting, the town suffered heavy damage. However, the town of Maryinka is still not safe, with fighting still going on in many areas near the town.
Images released show that not a single structure in the town remains intact. Maryinka not only serves as a stronghold for Ukrainian forces but also serves as one of the key staging points for the offensive on Donetsk. The city has been regularly hit by artillery and rocket attacks. Fighting in Maryinka has intensified in recent months as Russian forces have gradually seized key locations across the city.
Meanwhile, the Ukrainian Armed Forces continue to launch attacks in many places. On December 25, AVP reported that Ukraine launched major attacks on Donetsk and Gorlovka. The representative office of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) at the Joint Control and Coordination Center (JCCC) reported on the shelling of the Ukrainian army in Donetsk and Gorlovka. Within 10 minutes, 17 155 and 152 mm artillery shells were fired.
According to a statement posted on the Telegram channel of the representative office of the Donetsk People's Republic (self-proclaimed) at the JCCC, the shelling began at 9:45 local time. The settlement of Kurakhovka, located in Donetsk (Petrovsk district), was hit by four 155 mm shells. This was followed by three more shellings on Donetsk, including nine NATO shells. In addition, Ukrainian troops fired four 152 mm shells into the Nikitovsky district of Gorlovka. The consequences of these attacks are not yet known.
The day before (December 24), the Armed Forces of Ukraine carried out 38 attacks on Gorlovka, causing serious damage to the city's infrastructure.
