On April 8th, the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center organized a Training of Trainers (TOT) course on "Expanding the Application of Digital Transformation Software in Dragon Fruit Production and Processing". Thirty participants attended the training, including members of the sustainable dragon fruit development advisory group; agricultural production and business cooperatives; and community agricultural extension groups from communes throughout the province (excluding Phu Quy).
During the training session, participants were given an overview of the traceability software (app); some results from the digital transformation application of the green dragon fruit supply chain; and the application of the " Binh Thuan Digital Agriculture" software.
In addition, the instructors shared methods for determining carbon footprints; steps for defining system boundaries and activities in the production chain; data entry and processing; and calculating greenhouse gas emissions in production activities. This helped trainees understand digital transformation, grasp the government's policies and the agricultural sector's direction on digital transformation. Simultaneously, it enhanced the knowledge of officials, businesses, cooperatives, and farmers, enabling them to apply this knowledge to production, increasing income for their families and society.
According to the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center, with the support of the UNDP Program, over the two years (2022-2023), the center developed software for production logging and carbon footprint tracking for dragon fruit products.
To date, the pilot software has been implemented in 4 cooperatives in the province, benefiting nearly 4,500 people who have developed green dragon fruit production and business; 100% of member households have used the 9W LED lights provided by the Project to induce off-season flowering and fruiting, achieving successful results and saving more than 55-78% of electricity consumption… This has helped farmers gradually change outdated farming practices and improve their awareness of dragon fruit production.
It is understood that the above training content will be covered in two additional TOT (Training of Trainers) courses organized by the Agricultural Extension Center on April 10th and 12th.
