Growing area code - the "key" to open the door to bringing agricultural products far and wide

In the context of international integration, Vietnamese agricultural products are increasingly reaching out thanks to advanced management and traceability solutions. In particular, the growing area code (MSVT) has become an important "passport", opening up export opportunities for agricultural products, ensuring food safety, enhancing product value and consumer confidence. In Tay Ninh, the implementation of MSVT issuance has brought about clear results, creating momentum for the development of many key crops such as lemon, dragon fruit, durian, watermelon, mango and many other specialty fruits.

Confidently reaching out to the world

Before the MSVT system, many Vietnamese agricultural products, including Tay Ninh agricultural products, often encountered difficulties in exporting due to lack of traceability. At that time, many export shipments were warned or refused to be imported due to doubts about quality and origin. The implementation of MSVT issuance has helped Tay Ninh agricultural products build reputation, ensure quality and food safety.

Thanks to the growing area code, dragon fruit ensures traceability and increases export value.

According to the report from the Department of Agriculture and Environment, the whole province currently has 422 MSVT with a total area of 16,731 hectares, exported to the following markets: Korea, Japan, the United States, Australia, New Zealand, the EU, the UK, China, the Netherlands. Of which, dragon fruit accounts for 269 codes, lemon 54 codes, watermelon 13 codes, durian 53 codes, mango 7 codes, sweet potato 1 code, jackfruit 3 codes,... In addition, there are 97 MSVT that have completed their documents and sent them to the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection, waiting for code issuance.

Not only individual farmers, cooperatives also benefit greatly from this. Duong Xuan Cooperative (An Luc Long commune) with a dragon fruit production area of over 120 hectares has been granted MSVT. Director of Duong Xuan Cooperative Phan Thanh Son said: “MSVT helps the Cooperative create a branded product chain, trace the origin and increase the value of the product. Thanks to that, many foreign partners have signed long-term contracts, the selling price has increased by an average of 15-20% compared to before. This not only helps the Cooperative stabilize production but also supports members to increase their income.”

Farmers in Thanh Loi commune apply cultivation processes according to VietGAP standards and growing area codes, helping to stabilize lemon exports and increase value.

In Thanh Loi commune, the lemon growing model according to MSVT is also creating a breakthrough. Mr. Nguyen Van Hung (residing in Hamlet 2 Thanh Hoa) shared: “Previously, the selling price of lemons was often unstable and easily forced down. Since being granted MSVT, lemons have been signed contracts with export enterprises to consume. Moreover, we are guided on the planting and care process according to VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards, both improving quality and ensuring safety for consumers.”

For durian - a fruit that requires high standards in export, the application of MSVT further affirms its value. Mr. Huynh Van Thua, who grows durian in Nhon Hoa Lap commune, said: "I used to worry when the fruit could not be exported because there was no certification of the growing area. Now, thanks to guidance on MSVT registration, durian has been exported to many demanding markets. Thanks to that, the output problem has also improved, and income has increased."

Farmers apply growing area codes for durian, helping products meet export requirements to demanding markets, stabilize output and increase income.

Besides MSVT, packaging facilities (CSĐG) also play an important role in ensuring export quality. The whole province currently has 179 CSĐG codes in operation, including: dragon fruit 92 codes, lemon 31 codes, banana 6 codes, durian 7 codes, sweet potato 3 codes, watermelon 1 code, ...

These establishments export to the Chinese market and 11 establishments export to Korea, Japan, the United States, Australia, New Zealand, the EU, and Malaysia. In addition, 13 CSĐGs have completed their dossiers but have not yet been granted codes for the following products: jackfruit, durian, grapefruit, coconut, sweet potato, and dragon fruit.

The application of MSVT and CSDG has contributed to improving the quality of agricultural products, reducing the rate of returned goods due to not meeting export standards, and at the same time forming a transparent value chain from production to the international market.

Enhance the value of agricultural products

The widespread and effective implementation of MSVT is not only a solution to support exports but also a tool to increase the value of domestic agricultural products. According to Deputy Head of the Department of Agriculture Nguyen Thi Ngoc Linh, MSVT is an important step for Tay Ninh agricultural products to reach the international market. In the coming time, the Department will expand the issuance of MSVT to many other crops, while improving the quality and efficiency of management to ensure that all exported products can be traced transparently and accurately.

Cooperatives are playing a key role in implementing this process. Thanh Hoa Agricultural Service Cooperative (Thanh Loi commune) with 30 hectares of seedless lemons has completed MSVT registration for the entire area.

Director of Thanh Hoa Agricultural Service Cooperative Dang Van Phai emphasized: “With MSVT, we not only meet the requirements of demanding export markets but also build prestige for our product brand. Currently, the Cooperative cooperates with export enterprises. We believe that with the application of MSVT, the Cooperative's lemon products will be welcomed by more markets.”

The economic efficiency of applying MSVT and CSĐG is very clear. Many products exported to the EU, Japan or US markets can achieve a selling price 20-30% higher than similar products without MSVT, while minimizing the risk of returned goods. In addition, traceability also contributes to combating commercial fraud and protecting the rights of genuine producers.

In addition to economic benefits, MSVT also raises awareness of environmental protection in agricultural production. Coded growing areas often apply sustainable farming methods, limit chemical pesticides, manage waste and practice water conservation. This is an important step in preparing Tay Ninh products to meet the requirements for organic agricultural products and sustainable development in the future.

Localities and relevant agencies of the province continue to coordinate with cooperatives, businesses and farmers to complete the database, track products from garden to table, and facilitate administrative procedures, technical support and market connection. The goal is that all key crops and local specialties will be granted MSVT within the next 3-5 years, contributing to making Tay Ninh agricultural products become the province's key export products.

MSVT has become an important "passport" to help Tay Ninh agricultural products not only conquer the domestic market but also confidently reach out to the international market. The results achieved from the application of MSVT and CSDG in households, cooperatives and concentrated production areas clearly show the economic value, improving product quality and brand reputation.

The orientation of expanding and effectively managing MSVT promises to continue to improve the quality of exported agricultural products, contributing to promoting sustainable agricultural development, increasing people's income and bringing local agricultural products further and further./.
