The aspiration to settle down

For families burdened with the worries of making ends meet, a sturdy and comfortable home is always a burning desire.

Báo Đắk LắkBáo Đắk Lắk08/07/2025

Now, the Project to Eliminate Temporary and Dilapidated Houses for Poor and Near-Poor Households by 2025 is being strongly implemented in communes throughout the province, bringing with it the warmth of sharing and hope for a brighter future for countless families.

Nearly a month after moving into their new home, the family of Mr. Bui Ngoc Sang (in Ea Nuol commune) is still overflowing with happiness. The house is not only a place to shelter from the rain and sun, but also gives the whole family the strength to overcome all the difficulties ahead.

Mr. Sang recounted that 17 years ago, he and his wife saved up for a long time to build a house of about 20 square meters . Over time, the house deteriorated severely, becoming damp and dilapidated, but with the meager earnings from his work to support his children's education and care for his wife's frequent illnesses, the dream of a new house gradually faded away.

Now, thanks to the province's 2025 project to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses for poor and near-poor households, Mr. Sang's family received 80 million VND in funding for construction. Relatives and friends contributed, and the family borrowed more money to complete their new home. "Having a new house has always been a dream for our family, so when it became a reality, we were overjoyed. The happiest are probably my wife and children because from now on, they will no longer have to cook while using buckets to catch rainwater leaking through the roof like before," Mr. Sang said emotionally.

Mr. Nguyen Trong Xuan (fourth from the left) expresses his joy at having a new house with Provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Dinh Trung and other delegates who came to visit.

Each completed project is not simply a house, but also a significant milestone, igniting faith and hope for countless lives. The family of Mr. Nguyen Trong Xuan (in Phu Xuan commune) is one of 28 families in the area who received this joy. In 1999, he and his wife managed to save up enough money to build a makeshift wooden house near the riverbank. Life was precarious; they took on any odd jobs they could find, struggling to raise their five children. Every rainy season, when the river water rose, the whole family lived in constant fear and anxiety.

When Xuân's family received 80 million VND in support from the project to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses for poor and near-poor households to build a new, safer house in their new location, they were overjoyed. Every day, Xuân helps with the labor, eagerly awaiting the completion of the project. He shared: "Mostly, the funding comes from the government; my family only contributed a few million VND to tile the floor to make the house a little more presentable. Now that we have a house, our dream of having a stable home has come true."

In Phu Xuan commune, the joy of having a new house has also come to many other households such as Nguyen Thanh Tung, Ngo Thi Kim Lien, Tran Ngoc Duy, Mai Cao Cuong…; many households are having their houses started construction such as Do Trong Tuyen, Truong Dinh Hung, Pham Viet Hong, Luong Van Chong, Pham Ngoc Dung…

To achieve the remarkable results of the project to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses in the western part of Dak Lak province , the close and coordinated cooperation between various departments, agencies, and organizations, and especially the joint efforts of the entire community, cannot be overlooked. The People's Committee of Dak Lak province assigned the Provincial Police to lead and coordinate with relevant departments, agencies, units, and localities, setting a target of building 4,285 houses to be donated to poor and near-poor households in 2025.

New houses handed over to disadvantaged families in Phu Xuan commune.

According to statistics from the Provincial Police, as of July 3, 2025, the communes and wards in the western area of Dak Lak province had built 3,777 houses, achieving 88.1% of the planned progress. Of these, 2,054 houses have been completed and handed over to households, reaching 47.9% of the plan. Notably, many communes and wards have completed 100% of the plan, such as the wards of Buon Ma Thuot, Tan An, Ea Kao, Buon Ho and the communes of Hoa Phu, Ia Rve, Buon Don, Ea H'leo, Ea Trang… These figures are not only results but also clear evidence of the sense of responsibility and tireless efforts for the lives of the people.

The mark of this collaborative effort began with meticulous and careful steps: inspecting and surveying each household; contributing labor to clear the site; disbursing funds on schedule; and closely monitoring each construction project. All of this was aimed at a single goal: ensuring that each house built met the Ministry of Public Security 's "three solid" criteria – a solid foundation, a solid frame/walls, and a solid roof – while also being suitable for the conditions and needs of each family.

According to the plan, 4,285 houses for poor and near-poor households in Western Dak Lak will be diligently implemented and handed over to residents before August 15th. On track to reach the finish line, these new homes are not only physical spaces but also symbols of human kindness and meaningful social welfare policies, helping thousands of disadvantaged families confidently rise out of poverty sustainably.
