Specifically, the total prize money for the 2025 US Open has increased by 20% compared to last year, from $75 million to $90 million.
This is "the largest prize money in tennis history." This change is believed to be a response to calls for "a redistribution of Grand Slam prize money among top players."
Last year, Aryna Sabalenka and Jannik Sinner each received $3.6 million for winning the US Open. But this year, the singles champion at the US Open will receive prize money of up to $5 million, a 39% increase.
Furthermore, prize money in all rounds has increased by double digits. Winners of the first round of singles will receive $110,000. Even a player who loses in the first qualifying round will receive $27,500. The winner of the doubles event will receive $1 million in prize money.
The 2025 US Open will take place from August 24th to September 7th. In 2024, the US Open surpassed 1 million attendees for the first time. This year, organizers predict that attendance could be even higher, potentially leading to an increase in prize money.
