Many people have a habit of picking up strange USB drives and, out of curiosity, plugging them into their phones or computers. However, according to CNET, there have been several incidents in Australia where people have received strange USB drives in their mailboxes and become victims of hackers.
Just 5 minutes after plugging in the USB, the device was completely taken over, causing the user to lose important data.
Australian police have been forced to issue an urgent warning, advising people to absolutely not experiment with USB drives of unknown origin.
Experts say USB drives are a preferred attack tool because they are easy to embed malware, remotely control computers, and spread ransomware. Even now, there are USB drives that self-destruct upon connection, causing significant damage. For safety reasons, users should disable permissions to execute *.exe files, install antivirus software, and scan their device before use.
Finally, the golden rule is never to plug unfamiliar USB drives into personal or work devices to avoid being exploited by cybercriminals. Readers are invited to watch the following video : Iris scanning tool to verify human identity | VTV24
