UTH accelerates human resource training for high-speed railway

(NLDO)- The construction phase of the high-speed railway will require hundreds of thousands of workers, while the operation phase will require tens of thousands of engineers and managers.

Vietnam is approaching the crucial stage of the North-South high-speed railway project, an infrastructure project that is considered the "backbone" of the country for decades to come. But for the project to be successful, in addition to capital and technology, high-quality human resources are the key. Realizing that, Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport (UTH) is accelerating its pace, implementing a series of strategic steps to prepare human resources for the future.

7 key projects – the foundation for the training ecosystem

Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport is implementing 7 international cooperation projects with leading partners in the railway sector. Of these, five projects focus on building a training ecosystem with a technology exhibition room, simulation room, high-speed railway and urban railway engineering practice rooms. This will be a modern learning environment where students have direct access to advanced technology, shortening the gap between theory and practice.

The remaining two projects are aimed at developing high-quality human resources, aiming to train a team of engineers and experts capable of mastering technology, managing projects and organizing the operation of high-speed railways. This is especially urgent when, according to forecasts, the construction phase will require hundreds of thousands of workers, while the operation phase requires tens of thousands of engineers and managers.

Training framework with four core majors

In the training program, UTH has designed four majors according to international standards. The field of high-speed railway and urban railway construction focuses on construction techniques and infrastructure. The field of automatic control and signal information engineering trains engineers to master modern control technology, ensuring operational safety. In the mechanical field, students learn how to design, manufacture, and maintain trains using advanced technology. Meanwhile, the major of exploitation and operation focuses on transport management skills, exploitation organization, and situation handling.

The highlight of UTH training is the combination of theory at school and experience at businesses. Students not only have solid knowledge but also practice practical skills, ready to meet social requirements.

Operational simulation room – an important milestone

Among the seven projects, the simulation room for training, operation and construction of high-speed railways and urban railways is in the final stage of completion. This is the first package in cooperation with Chinese partners, expected to be inaugurated in the near future.

With a 3D simulation system, advanced control software and technical equipment, the simulation room is considered a "living laboratory". Students, lecturers and experts can directly experience the process of operation, exploitation and handling of situations as in reality. Putting this project into use is not only an important step forward for UTH, but also demonstrates Vietnam's determination to proactively train human resources for the railway industry.

International cooperation - a launch pad for domestic strength

UTH projects are built on the foundation of close cooperation with many international corporations, universities and research institutes. Thanks to that, students have the opportunity to participate in exchange programs, business semesters abroad, and directly experience the training - production - operation process in a global environment.

Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport signed a cooperation agreement with Shandong Polytechnic University and HollySys Beijing (China) in the field of high-speed railway.

Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Xuan Phuong, Principal of UTH, emphasized: "UTH is committed to not only training engineers with good expertise but also understanding global technology, with the ability to quickly adapt to new requirements of the high-speed railway industry. This is the mission that the school puts first, and at the same time, it is also the way UTH accompanies the national transport infrastructure development strategy."

Human resources – the key to project realization

When the North-South high-speed railway project starts, Vietnam will enter a period of strong transformation in the transport sector. However, advanced technology or large investment capital will be difficult to promote effectively without a well-trained workforce.

With seven ongoing projects and the upcoming inauguration of the simulation room, UTH is clearly demonstrating its pioneering role in preparing the human resources foundation for the future. This is not only a step forward for a university, but also a strategic contribution to the goal of bringing Vietnam into the era of modern and sustainable transportation.
