From warm and compassionate "solidarity" houses to providing livelihoods, supporting production, and caring for spiritual well-being, the poverty reduction journey in Van Dinh today is built upon the strength of national unity.

When a sturdy roof becomes the foundation for escaping poverty.

In the final days of 2025, the old, dilapidated house of Mr. Hoang Van Cong's family in Nguyen Xa village began reconstruction, much to the emotion of the entire family and neighbors. Mr. Cong's family consists of six people: both he and his wife are frequently ill, his daughter-in-law receives disability benefits, his son is the main breadwinner but his job and income are unstable, and his two young grandchildren are of school age. Life was already difficult, but it became even harder when the whole family had to live in a severely dilapidated house with many potential safety risks.

After reviewing and conducting a field survey, the Steering Committee for Assisting the Poor in Van Dinh Commune unanimously selected Mr. Hoang Van Cong's household as eligible for support in building a "great solidarity" house. According to the estimate, the house will have an area of approximately 50m², with a total cost of nearly 200 million VND. Of this amount, the Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, and the Committee for Assisting the Poor of the commune will contribute 50 million VND; the remaining amount will be contributed by relatives, family members, and villagers, along with additional labor. The project is expected to be completed in December 2025.

At the groundbreaking ceremony, Bui Thi Thu Hien, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairwoman of the People's Council of Van Dinh commune, emphasized: "Supporting the construction of a solidarity house for Mr. Hoang Van Cong's family not only helps the family have a stable and secure place to live, but also clearly demonstrates the spirit of mutual support and solidarity of the community, thereby contributing to the effective implementation of the sustainable poverty reduction program and ensuring social security in the area."

A new roof over their heads not only provides shelter from the sun and rain, but also opens up hope and gives motivation to disadvantaged families, enabling them to work with peace of mind and gradually improve their lives.

Nguyen Xa village currently has 450 households with over 1,800 inhabitants, whose economic life is mainly based on agricultural production, livestock farming, and aquaculture. Under the leadership of the Party branch, the management of the Front Committee, and the consensus of the people, patriotic emulation movements and mutual assistance for economic development have been widely implemented.

To date, the village's poverty rate continues to decrease, 96.7% of households have achieved the title of "Culturally Advanced Family," and the cremation rate has reached 85%. Movements such as "Gratitude and Repayment," "Humanitarianism and Charity," and support for the "Fund for the Poor" and the "Vietnam Sea and Islands" Fund have been actively embraced by the people. These seemingly dry statistics vividly reflect the spirit of solidarity, community responsibility, and enduring compassion cultivated over many years.

Poverty reduction is not just about giving people a fishing rod, but also about giving them hope.

Recognizing that sustainable poverty reduction must go hand in hand with long-term livelihood support, in 2025, the Fatherland Front of Van Dinh commune implemented a series of large-scale and practical social welfare activities. On the occasion of the 95th anniversary of the Vietnam Fatherland Front's traditional day, the commune presented 115 gifts; donated bicycles and Mid-Autumn Festival gifts to disadvantaged students; supported the commencement of construction of 7 solidarity houses; provided 5 breeding cows and 5 electric motorbikes as means of labor; and distributed over 200 gifts to needy households. The total value of social welfare activities during the year reached 495 million VND.

Not stopping there, in the spirit of "leaving no one behind," the Fatherland Front of the commune organized the groundbreaking ceremony for 5 houses and the inauguration and handover of 1 solidarity house to disadvantaged households in the villages of Nguyen Xa, Phi Trach, Hau Xa, Hoang Duong, Dong Duong, and Tu Duong. Each house received a subsidy of 50 million VND along with contributions of labor and materials from the people and relatives.

In addition to housing support, the commune also donated 5 motorbikes as means of transportation for work and provided 5 breeding cows with a total cost of 227.5 million VND, helping households create sustainable livelihoods and gradually stabilize their lives.

As a result, 1,487 households have achieved the title of excellent producers and business operators at various levels. The Association has also coordinated the listing of 17 key products of the commune on e-commerce platforms, expanding markets for local agricultural products; and provided initial support of nearly 50 million VND to a particularly disadvantaged member family.

The Youth Union of the commune affirmed its pioneering role in supporting digital transformation with over 940 members participating in assisting people at public administrative service points, building digital cultural center models, cleaning up land data and driver's licenses, and becoming a core force in community digital transformation teams in the villages.

The Veterans Association coordinated the donation of savings accounts, the construction of charitable houses, and bus shelters with a total value of over 100 million VND, providing further motivation for members to overcome difficulties.

According to Nguyen Hanh Van, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Van Dinh commune, the Fatherland Front of the commune has always clearly demonstrated its central role in gathering and promoting the strength of national unity. The Fatherland Front of the commune has determined that supporting housing, providing livelihoods, and caring for the lives of poor and near-poor households will continue to be maintained regularly, linked with building united and civilized residential areas.

To date, the "For the Poor" Fund of Van Dinh commune has received over 500 million VND from the support of officials, Party members, and the people... a vivid testament to the people's trust in the right-directed, transparent, and humane poverty reduction policy.

Sustainable poverty reduction in Van Dinh today is not only measured by specific figures or projects, but also by the transformation in awareness and the spirit of self-reliance of each individual. From "solidarity" houses, breeding cows, tools for work, to heartfelt gifts... all are contributing to kindling hope and creating a solid foundation for disadvantaged households to stabilize their lives and gradually escape poverty.

Social welfare work in Van Dinh commune has been strongly spreading a humane message: Unity is strength, sharing is the foundation of sustainable development. Each project, each gift, each smile during the great unity festival is a brick building the people's trust in the Party, the government, and the Fatherland Front ; contributing to building Van Dinh commune into an increasingly stable, civilized, and compassionate place – in line with the spirit of "leaving no one behind" on the development journey of the Capital.
