Towards the 80th anniversary of the successful August Revolution (August 19, 1945 - August 19, 2025) and National Day September 2, on August 15, in Hanoi , the Hanoi Literature and Arts Association organized a discussion "80 years of literature and arts of the Capital accompanying the country" with the participation of many artists of the Capital, contributing to clarifying the achievements, while pointing out the limitations in the development of literature and arts of the Capital over the past 80 years.
Accompanying and recreating reality through the lens of art

In his opening speech, People's Artist Tran Quoc Chiem, Chairman of the Hanoi Literature and Arts Association, emphasized that the August Revolution in 1945 opened a new face for the country's literature and arts. Since the early years of independence, the capital's art forms have been in harmony with the cause of protecting and building the country, becoming "an effective and profound propaganda tool for the masses". During the two resistance wars, the capital's literature and art contributed to fostering patriotism, encouraging fighting, and protecting the core values of the nation.
“Artists holding guns, pens, and musical instruments have always stood side by side with all classes of people and the entire nation, ready to dedicate themselves, bravely sacrifice, and take the lead on the ideological and cultural front; they have written works and heroic epics that inspire, encourage, and motivate, creating the unparalleled strength of the entire nation in the fight, protection, construction, and development of the country,” People's Artist Tran Quoc Chiem affirmed.
Through poems, prose, songs, music, drawings, films, plays, etc., artists have spread the revolutionary spirit to all parts of the country, praising the bravery and encouraging the fighting spirit of our army and people on the battlefield, becoming a great source of encouragement on all fronts. "Those works have left a deep impression on the people's hearts and are a valuable cultural heritage, helping future generations better understand the value of independence, freedom and the sacrifice of their ancestors," People's Artist Tran Quoc Chiem commented.
Affirming the contribution of the capital's literature and arts over the past 80 years since the fall of national independence, People's Artist Ung Duy Thinh (Hanoi Dance Artists Association) said that if we count the works and authors of all types of literature and arts, Hanoi has the largest number with many outstanding and top-notch works, contributing to the development of the economy , society, culture, especially building the personality of Vietnamese people, people of the capital.
According to People's Artist Ung Duy Thinh, to make such practical contributions, the capital's literature and arts have always closely followed the Party's resolutions, seriously and creatively implemented them through historical periods. These are important orientations, ideological foundations to approach reality, accompany reality, and recreate reality through artistic images.
Entering the new era with creative passion

Entering the period of innovation and integration, Hanoi literature and art continue to develop strongly, expanding the scope of creativity. The team of artists continues to sacrifice and endure hardships to reflect and affirm the colorful vitality in all regions and professions, creating works imbued with cultural and humanistic values, adding vitality to aesthetics and art studies, creating spiritual resources for the country on the path to prosperity and beauty, especially the beauty of the Vietnamese soul.
In the face of new trends, literature and art have made timely changes. The reality that literary and artistic works aim at are issues of public concern such as: Environment, gender equality, the gap between rich and poor, preserving cultural identity, etc.
At the seminar, artists and researchers clarified the contributions of each field of literature and art over the past 80 years, especially the directions of literature and art development to accompany the country into the new era.
Musician and journalist Tran Le Chien (Hanoi Music Association) affirmed that music plays a special role, both as the voice of the nation's soul in general and the voice of Hanoians in particular, and as a sharp spiritual weapon that urges each army to go to battle to protect the capital and firmly protect national and ethnic sovereignty . 80 years of accompanying the nation is 80 years of Hanoi music affirming its enduring vitality, adaptability and constant creativity.
In particular, in the past 5 years, Hanoi has been the host of many large-scale music events, national and international. Spaces such as the Hanoi Opera House, Hoan Kiem Lake Theater, the Old Quarter Cultural Exchange Center, walking streets, etc. have become meeting places for traditional and modern music to resonate together, creating Hanoi's own identity.
Hanoi is also a “living museum” of many traditional music genres: ca tru, cheo, hat xam, quan ho, royal court music… Artists, clubs, and art troupes have preserved and taught the younger generation, while combining with theatrical programs, so that the heritage lives on in contemporary life.
The art programs and large-scale concerts with tens of thousands of audiences that took place recently such as “Fatherland in the Heart”, “V Concert”, “V Fest”, “Anh trai qua ngan cong gai”, “Anh trai say hi” have combined tradition and modernity, creating changes in the spiritual life of the people, contributing to the development of the cultural industry of the capital and the country. This is a strength that needs to be promoted in the coming time.
In the field of cinema, reviewing the achievements in the fields of feature films, animations, documentaries, and television series, People's Artist Ha Bac (Hanoi Cinema Association) affirmed that Hanoi cinema has created a rich artistic flow, with works that live forever in the hearts of the public. However, in the new period, with the integration and development of technology, Hanoi cinema needs to be more dynamic and updated to continue to accompany the country's development.
In order for literature in particular and literature and art in general to inherit and promote the outstanding achievements of the past 80 years, poet Bui Viet My, Vice President of the Hanoi Writers Association, said that artists, professional associations, and cultural management agencies need to have stronger and bolder movements.
Some proposed solutions are to innovate leadership and management thinking; discover, train and foster human resources; promote traditional artistic values; expand creative camps and exchanges at home and abroad; apply digital technology and artificial intelligence in creation, dissemination and storage; build a digital database of works...
With a solid traditional foundation and a dedicated artist force, Hanoi literature and art are expected to continue to play a pioneering role, contributing to building a cultural, civilized, and modern capital, accompanying and contributing value to the country's development in the new era.
