Young people prefer working in cafes because of the atmosphere and comfortable environment.
Walking around the wards in the province, it's not difficult to spot young people inside many cafes carrying laptops, papers, and books, studying or working for hours on end. They could be students, people working in media, design, etc. One of the main reasons young people like to work in cafes is the comfortable and relaxing workspace.
In a corner of Bong Bang Cafe in Hac Thanh Ward, Minh Anh, a communications employee and regular customer, is checking a product before delivering it to her superiors. Due to the nature of her work, her superiors only need the product and don't require her to be present at the office regularly, so she can work from anywhere. She chooses Bong Bang Cafe because of its comfortable and airy atmosphere. "The space filled with soothing music and the aroma of coffee relaxes my mind and stimulates my creativity," Minh Anh enthusiastically shared.
A cup of coffee costs only 25-30 thousand VND, and Ms. Minh Anh can sit there from morning till night, with free Wi-Fi, air conditioning, iced tea, and electricity. Furthermore, the cafe's no-smoking policy and no loud laughter that disturbs others are positive points for freelancers like Ms. Minh Anh. With a frequency of 3-5 visits per week, Ms. Minh Anh spends approximately 1-1.5 million VND per month to "buy" her ideal workspace. In return, her work quality improves, and she is more productive. Additionally, she connects with many people working in different fields, allowing her to network, learn, and share experiences.
Young people prefer working in cafes because of the atmosphere and comfortable environment.
Dressed in casual attire, 37-year-old Hoang Cuong, a construction design consultant, focuses on his client's designs. When stressed, he sips coffee and lets his mind wander to the soothing music in the cafe. After calming down, he resumes his work. He's maintained this habit of working at cafes for almost a year now, due to their convenience and comfort. "I usually spend at a cafe every morning, at least an hour, sometimes half a day. Here, I can wear whatever I like without being judged or violating any company regulations," Cuong explains.
Mr. Cuong also frequently meets with friends in the construction and design fields at cafes to exchange ideas and plan business ventures. “Design work requires innovation and daily inspiration. However, the repetitive nature of the office environment can make people feel stifled and run out of ideas. Therefore, I often choose cafes as a collaborative workspace for everyone. Instead of going to a cafe alone, going as a group is much more fun, and problems can be solved directly without waiting for messages,” Mr. Cuong said.
Boong Coffee, located on Nguyen Duy Hieu Street in Hac Thanh Ward, is one of the most popular cafes, attracting many customers during business hours on weekdays due to its airy atmosphere and a separate area on the second floor suitable for working. Mr. Le Van Truong, the owner of Boong Coffee, acknowledges that the trend of working at cafes is becoming increasingly popular. Therefore, the cafe has arranged a separate area on the second floor with long, round work tables to meet the needs of teamwork, and power outlets to allow customers to easily charge their phones and laptops without interruption.
On average, Boong Coffee serves about 100 customers a day, with several dozen choosing it as a place to work or study for 3 to 4 hours or more. However, according to Mr. Truong, this doesn't significantly affect the cafe's revenue. Customers who stay longer often order additional snacks, sunflower seeds, and drinks. Importantly, the cafe has a loyal customer base, receives high ratings on social media, and has become an ideal meeting place for office workers.
Boong Coffee, located on Nguyen Duy Hieu Street in Hac Thanh Ward, is quite busy during business hours on weekdays.
Young people desire a more comfortable and energetic work environment where new ideas are stimulated and developed. Working in cafes has become a trend, offering young people a new space to embrace new things and a place to unleash their creative emotions and ideas. However, alongside the positive aspects, working in cafes also has drawbacks. Cafes are shared spaces, and surrounding noise can reduce work efficiency. The security of personal and work information is also not guaranteed. Therefore, if you work with sensitive information, you should carefully consider this before deciding to work in a cafe. Meanwhile, spending hundreds of thousands to millions of dong each month to work in a cafe is also a concern. Therefore, you should ensure that the expense doesn't significantly impact your living costs and choose a suitable location for studying and working, avoiding simply following trends to prevent wasting time and money.
