Van Thanh helps CAHN crush Thanh Hoa

Thanh Hoa midfielder Vu Van Thanh was involved in all four goals as Hanoi Police came from behind to beat hosts Thanh Hoa 4-1 in Round 11 of the V-League 2023.

Of CAHN's four goals, Van Thanh scored one and assisted two. In the remaining goal, he indirectly earned a penalty that led to his teammate Jhon Cley's goal.

Thanks to Van Thanh's impressive performance, CAHN became the first team to beat Thanh Hoa in the V-League 2023. They thus reclaimed second place in the standings with 21 points, just one point behind Thanh Hoa.

Before kick-off, impressed by Velizar Popov's team's unbeaten run over 10 rounds and their top-of-the-table position, a large crowd of Thanh Hoa fans packed the stadium. Their excitement only intensified when they witnessed their team open the scoring in the 20th minute. From a cross by Hoang Thai Binh on the left wing, Lam Ti Phong burst into the space between defenders Bui Tien Dung and Doan Van Hau, heading the ball into the net.

The early goal boosted Thanh Hoa's confidence, allowing them to maintain an aggressive style of play. However, this also came at a cost. In the 38th minute, a foul on Xuan Nam resulted in a free kick for the home team near the left sideline. From there, Van Thanh crossed the ball to Gustavo Henrique, who headed it just wide of the post to equalize the score at 1-1.

In the second half, the Thanh Hoa team had another chance to take the lead when Lam Ti Phong was fouled by Elton Monteiro inside the penalty area, resulting in a penalty in the 48th minute. However, from the penalty spot, the inspired Bruno Cunha's shot hit the crossbar.

This was perhaps the turning point of the match. Because four minutes after escaping defeat, CAHN took the lead. From a corner kick on the right wing taken by Van Thanh, center-back Minh Tung clumsily handled the ball in the penalty area, resulting in a penalty for Thanh Hoa. Although he had to retake it, Jhon Cley still shot into the left corner, increasing the score to 2-1 for the visitors.

In the 66th minute, substitute midfielder Hoang Van Toan headed the ball in to make it 3-1. The assist came from Van Thanh again, with a corner kick from the left wing. Three minutes later, the former HAGL player capped off his impressive performance by tapping in a close-range finish from a well-placed low cross by Van Hau, sealing a 4-1 victory.
