(Baoquangngai.vn)- Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant was the largest hydropower plant in Vietnam and Southeast Asia from 1994 until Son La Hydropower Plant was inaugurated in 2012.

On November 6, 1979, the Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant officially started construction. After more than 5,000 days and nights of hard work and creativity by engineers and workers, the Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant officially connected to the grid with unit 1 at the end of 1988. The plant is located underground in a hill, where all the main equipment is installed, including 8 generators, power transformers, etc., along with auxiliary works. The eight generators have a total capacity of 1,920MW, each with a capacity of 240MW. Photo: DUY TIEN

The dam uses the waterproofing curtain method (earth-rock dam with clay core) with a length of 734m, a height of 128m, and a water column difference of 102m upstream and downstream.
