Since early May, the domestic air ticket market has begun to become bustling as the peak summer tourist season approaches. Unlike previous years, this year the market has recorded a more abundant number of tickets, many flights have appeared with early promotional prices, especially on routes from Ho Chi Minh City to destinations such as Nha Trang and Phu Quoc.
Ms. Phuong Oanh (Tan Binh District, Ho Chi Minh City) said that she bought round-trip tickets from Ho Chi Minh City to Nha Trang for her whole family in July for about 2.3-2.4 million VND per person. This price is significantly lower than last year, when at the same time she had to pay up to 3 million VND even though she booked tickets in May. "I find that this year's tickets are plentiful, with many options for flight times and prices," she commented.
According to the ticket booking systems, many popular routes such as Ho Chi Minh City - Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City - Phu Quoc or Hanoi - Nha Trang are being offered by airlines with many attractive prices. In particular, passengers who proactively buy early or fly late at night or early in the morning will easily hunt for cheap tickets.
For example, the Ho Chi Minh City - Da Nang route from June to August has a round-trip ticket starting from only 1.3 million VND, and even during some times of the week, a one-way ticket is only 190,000 VND (excluding taxes and fees) - a price that almost did not appear last year. For the Ho Chi Minh City - Hanoi route, round-trip ticket prices range from 2.7 to 4.1 million VND depending on the airline, down from 3.1 to 5 million VND in the same period last year.
On the contrary, some flights from Hanoi to Da Nang and Con Dao still maintain high prices. Round-trip tickets from Hanoi to Con Dao are currently around 8.7 million VND, with almost no promotions. Round-trip tickets from Hanoi to Da Nang range from 3.6 to 5 million VND.
However, overall, this year's ticket supply is not only abundant but also highly differentiated in price. Vietnam Airlines and Bamboo Airways have kept prices quite stable and high since the beginning of the season, while Vietjet Air and Vietravel Airlines have been more flexible, launching many promotional programs. Some travel routes have the lowest ticket price from only 190,000 to 780,000 VND (excluding taxes and fees).
Ms. Pham Thi Thu - an airline ticket agent in Hanoi, said that this summer has seen a slight increase in the number of domestic passengers booking tickets early, while international passengers have had a sudden increase in demand.
"I am doing procedures for many European tourist groups to Da Nang and Con Dao because these destinations have quality accommodation services at reasonable prices," she said.
With total demand increasing compared to the same period last year, airlines said they had increased capacity early in the summer. Vietnam Airlines opened for sale more than 9 million seats for the summer of 2025, equivalent to 43,000 flights, up 14% over the same period last year. The domestic flight network accounted for more than 6.3 million seats, up 28%. The airline also added many early morning and late evening flights to reduce the load and give passengers more options. Vietjet Air expanded its network to more than 120 routes, implementing a discount program of up to 55% from May 5 to 18, applicable to flights from May 15 to November 30.
According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, there are expected to be 68,558 domestic flights in the summer of 2025, up 21% compared to last year. The number of seats available will reach about 14 million, up 18%. Particularly, key tourist destinations such as Cam Ranh, Phu Quoc, Da Lat and Quy Nhon will receive more than 20,000 flights, accounting for nearly a third of the total number of domestic flights.
Data from Google Flights also shows that this year's ticket prices are more diverse and have more incentives than the same period last year. With the strong recovery of domestic tourism and the return of international visitors, experts predict that this summer will continue to be a booming season for aviation. Airlines recommend that passengers plan early to optimize costs and choose a suitable schedule.
