According to Yonhap News Agency, citing information from Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI), on May 3, the country's Earth observation satellite successfully communicated with the ground station after separating from the rocket.
The satellite was launched into space by SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket at 11:59 PM local time on May 2nd (1:59 PM on May 3rd in Vietnam) from Vandenberg Space Base in Santa Barbara County, California (USA), carrying a total of 45 payloads.
Approximately one hour after liftoff, the satellite separated from the rocket and entered low Earth orbit.
This mission is named CAS500-2, after the main satellite, the "Small Advanced Satellite" (CAS) 500-2, developed by KAI. It is a new generation of medium-sized satellites specifically designed for disaster monitoring and agricultural missions.
Reportedly, the CAS500-2 was initially planned to be launched using a Russian Soyuz rocket in 2022. However, the plan was postponed after Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine in February 2022.
