Attractive, interesting
The first time she visited the walking street and Bach Dang night market, Associate Professor, Dr. Noraini Zainal Abidin, working at City University (Malaysia), praised the attractiveness and liveliness of this place. She and her friends walked, watched music, stopped by some shops to admire souvenirs and enjoyed some dishes sold along the street. She felt a huge difference between the walking street of Hai Duong and Malaysia. “In Malaysia, the walking street is very simple, just a small street selling a few items. But here, the scale is large, the space is colorful, the art performances are very attractive, attracting many participants. I feel the ingenuity in organizing your activities and the excitement of the people when enjoying these activities,” Ms. Noraini Zainal Abidin commented.
For Mr. Lovish (India), a dance teacher at Moti Fitness Center (Hai Duong City), performing at the walking street and Bach Dang night market is a great joy. Mr. Lovish shared: “I have performed at the walking street 5 times. The audience was very crowded and cheered enthusiastically. I tried a few dishes and found the flavors very special, different from the way my hometown prepares them. The people at the walking street are also very open and friendly when they proactively talk to us. My hometown does not have a walking street, so I am very impressed with your walking street.”
Bach Dang walking street and night market are becoming an interesting entertainment spot for many people in Hai Duong city and other localities in the province. Although the winter is cold, it cannot stop the love of the walking street of Ms. Vu Thi Hong, who is over 70 years old this year, living on Bui Thi Xuan street (Hai Duong city). Ms. Hong prepares warm clothes early, along with a chair, and will set off on time to find a good seat. Since the walking street opened, every night she has been present at the "Connecting passion" point to enjoy cultural and artistic activities. "Bach Dang walking street and night market have brought us truly beneficial spiritual food. Coming here, I feel much more refreshed than when I sit at home watching TV because of the fresh and cheerful air," Ms. Hong shared.
Not only Ms. Hong, in Hai Duong City there are many loyal audiences who come every weekend night. They are the ones who have contributed to the success of the walking street and Bach Dang night market.
On the walking street, Bach Dang night market, there are many households living here using the premises for business and trading. Ms. Nguyen Mai Thanh, an employee of Mixue ice cream shop, said that on the days when the walking street and Bach Dang night market are open, the number of customers coming to the shop is 2-3 times higher than usual. Therefore, it also brings significant income to the shop.
Never stop innovating
After 10 months of operation, the Bach Dang walking street and night market have affirmed their vitality. This is a destination to enhance the value of spiritual life every weekend, a cultural and culinary space that attracts a large number of people to participate, especially workers, youth and laborers. Each session, the street attracts from 5,000 to 7,000 people from inside and outside the province and foreign tourists to participate. The walking street has promoted the development of the night economy , bringing in an income of 5-7 million VND/month for many businesses here and contributing to spreading and evoking many other values.
The success of the walking street must be attributed to the participation and silent work of the staff of the specialized departments of Hai Duong City. Director of the Hai Duong City Center for Culture, Information and Sports Nguyen Thi Sam said that in order to attract people to the walking street, the center must diversify activities by inviting cultural and artistic clubs inside and outside the province to perform. Activities are organized according to themes, holidays, and anniversaries of the country and the province. Each performance program at the walking street is planned in advance by the center to avoid duplication. The center also combines organizing communication activities or exhibitions suitable for each age group and interests of the audience. “Hundreds of clubs and dance groups have performed thousands of acts on the walking street with tens of thousands of participants. The center has organized nearly 30 special programs such as circus performances by a circus troupe from Hanoi, the 36 Street Singing program, lion, lion and dragon dances, displays of antique French bicycles, 67 motorbikes, etc., creating an attractive playground for those with their own interests as well as an opportunity for people to admire special things,” said Ms. Sam.
Hai Duong Youth Union was assigned to maintain an art performance venue on the walking street and also built and implemented a series of diverse and rich art activities that have created a "brand" such as "Super Speed Matchmaking", "Free Haircut", "Creative Corner - I am a Child Artist".
After nearly 1 year of operation, the walking street and Bach Dang night market have affirmed their vitality, creating a useful and attractive playground every weekend. People want the walking street to expand its scale and scope of activities to become a special entertainment and recreation spot.
