Newly trapped turtledoves are called wild birds. Wild birds are very shy, and when people come near, they panic and fly away, so there must be a suitable way to keep and tame them.
According to the experience of bird keepers, newly arrived wild birds should be kept in the same cage with old wild birds. When the new bird sees the old bird eating the bait, it will imitate and come to eat and gradually get used to the cage.
Then, choose a good dove and raise it separately. In case you do not have an old wild bird at home, but only a new wild bird, then put it in a small cage made of rattan or bamboo.
Although the cage is cramped, it is suitable for doves because doves stand still in one place and do not jump around like other birds.
The advantage of raising doves in small cages is that wild birds are quickly tamed, and tamed birds are quickly in good health. Who wouldn't like to raise wild doves that are always in good health and crowing?
The work of taming doves is done step by step. There are many doves that are so tame that they start crowing in the cage after just a few days.
The bell-like crowing (popularly called the bronze-voiced dove) seems to challenge other birds. But there are also many doves that have been raised for up to 3 years without even opening their mouths!
Raising these hard-to-get-at-all doves is very boring, but breeders still hope that "where there's a flaw, there's a talent."
If the trapped dove is successfully domesticated, the dove breeder will have a valuable dove with a golden voice.
Such doves, when they are "famous", can make a perfect call. Usually, people keep at home several doves or more.
Some hang in front of the house, some in the back, or some upstairs, some downstairs. In case the house is too small to hang the bird cage, they can still be hung close together.
But the doves must be kept in a tightly covered cage so that they can only hear each other's crowing but cannot see each other. Sometimes, hanging the dove cage like this makes the birds more excited because they are like chickens, they get angry at each other because of their crowing...
Taking care of doves is not difficult, just clean the cage and feed them well.
Doves often suffer from two diseases: eye disease and diarrhea. For eye disease, people stab a few chili peppers.
Rub the crushed chili pepper on the tips of the bird's wings and then rub it on the bird's eyes. The dove's eyes hurt, and when it rubbed its eyes on the tips of its wings, it felt even more pain.
But when the chili is no longer spicy, the dove's eyes will recover. For diarrhea, you can use the drug terramycin (tetramycin) used for chickens.
Using terramycin (tastecin anesthetic) mixed in water for birds to drink for a few days will cure diarrhea.
Dove breeders need to note that there must always be minerals in the dove cage. People often use small laterite rocks to replace minerals for the birds to eat.
