As Tet (Lunar New Year) approaches, the demand for certain jobs such as hourly house cleaning, domestic help, and delivery services increases significantly, creating many job opportunities for workers, especially seasonal workers. Salaries during this period also increase two to three times compared to normal days.

Hourly house cleaning services are in high demand during the period leading up to Tet (Lunar New Year).

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thom (born in 1970, residing in Vinh Tuong district, Vinh Phuc province) is the leader of a team of hourly house cleaning staff consisting of middle-aged women who have free time and want to earn extra income. Ms. Thom said: “The number of people cleaning will depend on the size of the house and the homeowner's wishes. The payment is hourly, averaging around 50,000 VND/hour and 70,000 VND/hour during Tet (Lunar New Year).”

The tools used include brooms, cleaning cloths, mops, toilet and floor cleaners. The cleaning cloths also include glass cleaners and table cleaners. Cleaning requires good health, carefulness, meticulousness, and dexterity. Even though she is over 50 years old, Ms. Thom and her colleagues can clean continuously for 6 hours without a break. If the house is large, the working time can extend to 2-3 days, depending on the homeowner's requirements.

Industrial cleaning services are favored by large construction projects.

As Tet approaches, the demand for house cleaning services increases, so this job also helps middle-aged women like Mrs. Thom earn a decent income, ranging from 12 to 15 million VND per month.

The demand for cleaning services at large construction sites such as offices, factories, and shopping malls has also increased. Mr. Nguyen Xuan Truong, Director of Phu Tho Clean House Co., Ltd., stated: “Cleaning services and personnel for large construction sites require a high level of professionalism. Equipment, machinery, and cleaning products are invested in to meet the requirements of our partners. Labor costs at this time are also 1.5 times higher than usual.” The revenue of an industrial cleaning company can reach up to 4 billion VND per year.

Domestic helpers are in high demand and command high prices during the period leading up to Tet (Lunar New Year). Besides cleaning the house, they also handle tasks such as childcare, elderly care, cooking, and laundry. Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Dang (Minh Phuong Ward, Viet Tri City) said: “My family has been racking our brains for days trying to find a domestic helper. My wife just gave birth, so we want to find someone quick and who loves children. But it’s not easy at all.” Even though they are willing to pay tens of millions of dong per month, Mr. Dang’s family still hasn’t found a suitable helper.

Currently, the salary for a full-time domestic helper in Viet Tri City ranges from 7 to 8 million VND per month. In addition, employers must provide food, accommodation, year-end bonuses, and a minimum of two days of leave per month. The demand for domestic helpers in the city is very high, but the workforce in this field is mostly middle-aged, failing to meet the required criteria, leaving many families struggling to find help during the Tet holiday.

The demand for domestic helpers increases during Tet (Lunar New Year) with relatively good income.

At this time, small businesses and production facilities are also increasing their recruitment for the Tet holiday. On social media, many job pages in Phu Tho are continuously posting job advertisements for Tet holiday positions for various brands. The main jobs are sales staff, delivery personnel, consultants, and factory workers. Most businesses do not require applicants to have qualifications or experience. If workers are willing to work hard in the days leading up to Tet, their wages can be double or even triple compared to normal days.

Along with the surge in consumer demand for shopping at the end of the year, delivery drivers (shippers) are also reaping a considerable income. Shippers have to work at full capacity to ensure goods reach consumers as quickly as possible. In return for their hard work, these delivery drivers can sometimes earn up to a million dong per day.

Delivery driver is a job that earns a decent income during the period leading up to Tet (Lunar New Year).

Pham Nhat Khanh (born in 2002, a delivery driver for SPX Express) said: “For the past month, I haven't had a single day off, and the volume of goods has tripled compared to normal days. Although it's hard work, the income is worthwhile and will help me have a more comfortable Tet holiday.”

Delivery drivers must memorize the map of their assigned delivery area. For regular customers, the shipper only needs to call or text the customer to transfer the money and send the goods to their home or workplace. Because it's so quick and efficient, the number of deliveries per day is also higher.”

Understanding this sentiment, employers should pay even more attention to year-end compensation and bonuses so that employees can have a more joyful and prosperous Tet holiday with their families.
