Vietnam basically completed eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses 4 months ahead of schedule

(Chinhphu.vn) - The program and emulation movement to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses are "Special National Projects", "Projects of the Party's will and the People's heart", practically contributing to the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

On the morning of August 26 in Hanoi , the Central Steering Committee for the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses nationwide (Steering Committee) held a conference to summarize the Program and Emulation Movement "The whole country joins hands to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses" - a widespread social campaign of special importance, considered a "special national project", the crystallization of the Party's will and the people's heart.

Speaking at the Conference, Minister of Ethnic Minorities and Religions Dao Ngoc Dung, Deputy Head and Standing Member of the Steering Committee, said: "Vietnam has basically completed the goal of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses nationwide, reaching the target 5 years and 4 months ahead of schedule set out in Resolution No. 42-NQ/TW."

According to Minister Dao Ngoc Dung, after 1 year, 4 months and 13 days since the Prime Minister launched the Emulation Movement in Hoa Binh and after 10 months and 21 days of organizing the 450-day and night peak emulation program with the theme "Warm home for my compatriots" in the capital Hanoi, the program has reached its finish line.

As of the final report, the whole country has eliminated 334,234 temporary houses, dilapidated houses and houses that do not meet the "3 hard" criteria (hard foundation, hard frame, hard roof).

The total resources mobilized for the program are up to nearly 50,000 billion VND, of which: 24,761 billion VND comes from social mobilization, 5,074 billion VND from regular spending savings in 2024, 1,940 billion VND from excess budget revenue, used to support housing for people with meritorious services and relatives of martyrs.

Many localities have proactively increased the support level beyond the central regulations. Typically, Tuyen Quang and Thanh Hoa support 80 million VND/household, while Ha Nam supports up to 120 million VND/household for new construction.

Notably, approximately 60% of participating households have mobilized additional resources to build or renovate housing to a higher quality than the general support level. During the implementation process, the program has mobilized more than 2.7 million workdays, with the participation of 454,000 people.

Imprint of superior social policy

Emphasizing the significance of the program, Minister Dao Ngoc Dung affirmed: "This is a vivid demonstration of the special attention of the Party and State in ensuring the right to safe and stable housing for people - in line with the motto 'settling down to make a living'."

He also emphasized that this result affirms the superiority of social policy under the socialist regime, and at the same time shows that Vietnam is playing a pioneering role in implementing global social security goals.

In particular, this is also a step to realize the commitment of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh at the G20 Summit on November 18, 2024 in Brazil, where Vietnam was invited to attend as a founding member of the Global Alliance to Fight Poverty.

Towards multidimensional social security, leaving no one behind

Despite the impressive results, according to Minister Dao Ngoc Dung, this is only the first step in a long-term journey towards sustainable multidimensional poverty eradication. On behalf of the Central Steering Committee, he suggested:

All levels, sectors and localities continue to effectively promote social policies, mobilize initiatives and resources among the people, towards building a multi-dimensional, comprehensive and sustainable social security network.

Continue to review and update data on temporary and dilapidated houses, and mobilize additional resources to eliminate all remaining houses outside the scope registered with the Central Government, striving to complete this by 2025.

Taking care of people's livelihoods after they have a "settled" place, supporting job creation, stable income, helping households escape poverty - in the spirit of "leaving no one behind".

Through the Program and Emulation Movement, many collectives and individuals with outstanding achievements have emerged, especially the pioneering, responsible and highly effective work of the Ministry of National Defense, the Ministry of Public Security, the Banking sector, many localities and corporations, enterprises... In this Emulation Movement, the Ministry of National Defense has supported nearly 1,000 billion VND, mobilized more than 140,983 cadres, soldiers and militia with 414,526 working days and 62,916 vehicles; the Ministry of Public Security has supported over 790 billion VND, mobilized more than 27,400 cadres, people's police with 534,000 working days and supported construction materials; the Banking sector has supported about 1,800 billion VND; the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front has mobilized through the Central "For the Poor" Fund more than 125.88 billion VND.
