According to the VNA special correspondent, on the morning of October 30 (local time), in London, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam To Lam met with Mr. Tony Blair, former British Prime Minister and Chairman of the Tony Blair Institute, during his official visit to the UK.
General Secretary To Lam expressed his pleasure at meeting Mr. Tony Blair again; highly appreciated Mr. Tony Blair's efforts in his previous capacity as Prime Minister of the UK as well as his current chairmanship of the Tony Blair Institute in promoting Vietnam-UK relations; and welcomed the initiatives and cooperative activities of the Tony Blair Institute in supporting policy advice, digital transformation, green economic development, and strengthening governance capacity in many countries, including Vietnam.
It is evident that Vietnam has a strong aspiration for rapid but stable development, as evidenced by the issuance of many important resolutions on breakthroughs in science and technology development, innovation, and private sector development, and the initial implementation has yielded certain results.
During this development process, General Secretary To Lam affirmed that Vietnam attaches importance to promoting the Strategic Partnership with the UK, considering cooperation in digital transformation, renewable energy, innovation, and public governance as important pillars of cooperation, contributing to the substantive, effective, and sustainable development of bilateral relations in the new era.
Mr. Tony Blair expressed his honor to meet General Secretary To Lam and the high-level Vietnamese delegation, and congratulated Vietnam and the UK on upgrading their relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership.
Highly appreciating the achievements Vietnam has made in recent years, especially with the recent strong reforms in organizational restructuring under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam and General Secretary To Lam personally, Tony Blair affirmed that Vietnam is currently a bright spot in the world. He emphasized that the Tony Blair Institute is ready to strengthen its support for Vietnam in areas where the Institute has strengths, such as policy advice on building financial centers, digital transformation, green energy strategies, attracting high-quality investment, human resource development, and improving state governance capacity through the application of artificial intelligence and enhancing work efficiency.
He also stated that the Tony Blair Institute is ready to support and advise Vietnam on its development to avoid falling into the middle-income trap, as requested by the General Secretary, and is willing to act as a bridge to connect large corporations, including Oracle, with investors in the science and technology sector in Vietnam.
The former British Prime Minister expressed his delight at the Tony Blair Institute's collaborations with partners in Vietnam, and expressed confidence that more effective collaborations would be implemented in the coming years.
Highly appreciating Mr. Tony Blair's proposals, General Secretary To Lam emphasized that Vietnam always welcomes and facilitates concrete and practical cooperation initiatives that are consistent with the country's development goals; and requested the Tony Blair Institute to continue acting as a bridge to promote cooperation between ministries, sectors, businesses, research institutes, and universities of the two countries, especially in the fields of digital government, digital economy, sustainable development, clean energy, education and training, and healthcare.
