Vietnam women's futsal faces difficulties in the quarter-finals of the 2025 Asian tournament

Yesterday, the Vietnamese women's futsal team closed the group stage of the 2025 Asian Championship with a 0-0 draw with Iran. This result helped coach Nguyen Dinh Hoang's team win a ticket to the quarterfinals as the top team in Group B.

According to the draw by the organizing committee, the Vietnamese women's futsal team will meet the second team of Group C in the quarter-finals. In the late match last night, Japan lost 1-3 to Thailand and accepted second place in Group C.

Despite losing heavily to Thailand, the Japanese women's futsal team is still highly rated by experts. Previously, they had secured an early ticket to the quarterfinals after two consecutive wins against Indonesia (5-2) and Bahrain (3-2).

In the current FIFA women's futsal world rankings, Japan is ranked 10th, just 1 place above Vietnam. However, they are the strongest and most traditional team in Asia. In the 2 Asian women's futsal finals held in 2015 and 2018, Japan reached the final match before losing to Iran. In addition, they won 3 gold medals at the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games. Therefore, this is considered a very tough opponent for the Vietnamese women's futsal team.

The quarter-final match between the Vietnamese women's futsal team and Japan will take place at 10:00 tomorrow, May 13.
