VnExpressVnExpress09/11/2023

Vietnam condemns the violent attacks against civilians and calls on all parties to immediately cease fire in the Gaza Strip.

At a regular press conference this afternoon, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Pham Thu Hang said Vietnam strongly condemns violent attacks against civilians, humanitarian workers, journalists, and essential infrastructure.

"In the spirit of the resolution adopted by the emergency session of the United Nations General Assembly on October 27, we call on all parties to immediately cease fire, comply with international law and international humanitarian law, protect civilians and civilian infrastructure, establish humanitarian corridors, and immediately release hostages being held," Ms. Hang said.

Vietnam also welcomes and supports the international community's efforts to encourage parties to exercise restraint, engage in dialogue, and resolve disputes through peaceful means on the basis of international law and relevant United Nations resolutions, in order to achieve a fair, satisfactory, and long-term solution to the Middle East peace process.

Fighting in the region escalated after Hamas launched a rocket attack on Israel on October 7. The Israeli military then launched a campaign against the Gaza Strip in retaliation. Hamas meanwhile continued to fire rockets at Israel. About 12,000 people on both sides were killed in the conflict.
