In Southeast Asia, Vietnam ranked third, after Malaysia (168.94 Mbps, ranked 12th) and Singapore (160.56 Mbps, ranked 15th).
Worldwide, the UAE maintains its top spot in the rankings with mobile internet speeds reaching 543.91 Mbps.
In Vietnam, the fixed internet network in February improved, reaching an average speed of 164.77 Mbps, ranking 35th in the world. However, compared to leading countries in the region such as Singapore (345.33 Mbps) or Thailand (238.41 Mbps), the mobile internet speed in Vietnam is still far behind.
Previously, the January 2025 report from Ookla showed that mobile network speed in Vietnam reached 134.19 Mbps, an increase of 54% compared to December 2024 statistics.

According to records, Vietnam's mobile network speed has increased sharply from October 2024 to present when network operators in Vietnam officially commercialized 5G.

By December 2024, Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group ( VNPT ) will also officially provide VinaPhone 5G service. Operating on the superior frequency band of 3,700 - 3,800 MHz, VinaPhone 5G has an actual commercial speed of up to 1.5 Gbps, 10-20 times faster than 4G.
According to information from Viettel, by the end of January 2025, the whole country had 5.5 million Viettel 5G users.
Mr. Nguyen Trong Tinh, Deputy General Director of Viettel Telecom, said that in 2025, the 5G network will be expanded to district centers and densely populated areas to serve people in order to bring new services, promoting a more modern and convenient digital life.
In 2025, VNPT will continue to expand 5G coverage in provinces/cities so that businesses and people can have stronger access to services. "It is expected to increase the coverage area by 3 times the current area in 2025, following the roadmap to cover 99% of the population in accordance with the spirit of Resolution 57" - VNPT informed.
