Vietnam and Japan agree to strengthen close coordination at the United Nations

On the afternoon of June 6, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Deputy Minister Do Hung Viet received Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Ito Naoki for a courtesy visit on the occasion of the Deputy Minister's preparation to assume the position of Ambassador, Head of the Permanent Delegation of Vietnam to the United Nations in New York, USA.

The two sides expressed their delight at the increasingly substantive and comprehensive development of the Vietnam-Japan Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in all areas; highly appreciated the results of the official visit to Vietnam by Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru in April 2025.

Deputy Minister Do Hung Viet and Ambassador Ito Naoki agreed to continue promoting bilateral cooperation, including developing the semiconductor industry in Vietnam, implementing the Asia Zero Emissions Community (AZEC) Initiative and the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP), enhancing cultural exchanges, and connecting Japanese enterprises with Vietnamese localities.

The two sides also agreed to strengthen close coordination at the United Nations, especially when Vietnam assumes the role of Chair of the 11th Review Conference of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) in April-May 2026.

On this occasion, Deputy Minister Do Hung Viet presented Ambassador Ito Naoki with a letter from President Luong Cuong inviting Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru to attend the signing ceremony of the United Nations Convention on Cybercrime from October 25-26 in Hanoi .
