On May 7 (local time), after a solemn welcoming ceremony at the Presidential Palace, General Secretary To Lam held talks with President and Chairman of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party Ilham Aliyev.
President Ilham Aliyev emphasized that General Secretary To Lam's visit will create a strong impetus for the two countries to expand cooperation in all fields.
He recalled his deep impressions during his visit to Vietnam in 2014, feeling about the beautiful country of Vietnam, the hospitable people as well as the dynamic development and increasing international position of Vietnam. President Ilham Aliyev congratulated Vietnam on its solid and outstanding development achievements and said that Vietnam is on the right track in socio -economic development.

General Secretary To Lam affirmed that Vietnam always attaches importance to the traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation with Azerbaijan, which was founded by President Ho Chi Minh's visit to Azerbaijan in 1959 and followed by many mutual visits by high-ranking leaders of the two countries.
Vietnam considers Azerbaijan an important partner in the region and hopes that the relationship between the two countries will continue to develop in the coming time.
After more than 30 years, Vietnam - Azerbaijan relations have achieved many important achievements: Political and diplomatic relations have been maintained and strengthened, energy cooperation has been promoted, and cooperation in defense - security, trade, investment, education - training still has much potential and room for promotion.

To continue exploiting the remaining potential and to overcome the difficulties of the volatile world situation, General Secretary To Lam proposed five solutions to create breakthroughs and promote the two countries' cooperation to develop substantially, effectively and comprehensively.
Accordingly, the two sides will further enhance the coordinating role of the Intergovernmental Committee on economic-trade and scientific-technical cooperation, thereby finding solutions to promote cooperation in new fields such as processing industry, mechanics, chemicals; and promote energy-oil and gas cooperation.
In addition, increase information exchange, seek investment opportunities, train human resources as well as study the possibility of cooperation in the field of clean energy and renewable energy. Enterprises of the two countries promote information exchange, business connection, promote investment in each other's markets. Promote investment in agriculture and soon sign agreements on investment encouragement and protection, promote strengths in the field of sea and rail transport between the two countries; strengthen local cooperation.
President Ilham Aliyev said he would give specific instructions to promote relations in all aspects, especially in economics, trade and investment. With its geographical advantage, Azerbaijan wishes to cooperate with Vietnam in the fields of logistics, seaports, railways, aviation and renewable energy.
The President wishes to attract Vietnamese businesses to do business in Azerbaijan and is committed to creating favorable conditions for Vietnamese businesses to do business and invest in Azerbaijan.

General Secretary To Lam and President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev emphasized that the two countries' adoption of the Joint Statement on the establishment of the Strategic Partnership is of historic significance. This is the basis for consolidating and strengthening relations in the coming time, aiming to take advantage of each other's strengths, bringing Vietnam and Azerbaijan to develop in the new era...
The two leaders agreed that the two countries will continue to coordinate at multilateral forums, especially the United Nations, the Non-Aligned Movement, and the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA).
Vietnam is ready to be a bridge for Azerbaijan to strengthen cooperation with Southeast Asian countries and Azerbaijan will be a bridge for Vietnam to strengthen cooperation with the Central Asian region.
