Many glorious victories
We arrived at Regiment 6 on an autumn day in August. The sky was clear blue, the barracks were neatly and beautifully maintained, and along the internal roads were rows of eye-catching propaganda banners and posters, interspersed with clusters of sunflowers and roses in full bloom. These days, the officers and soldiers of Regiment 6 were enthusiastically competing to achieve outstanding results to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Regiment's founding (October 10, 1965 - October 10, 2025) and to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day on September 2nd.
Leading us on a tour of the Regiment's traditional room, Lieutenant Colonel Ta Van Tu, Political Commissar of the Regiment, shared: "Exactly 60 years ago, in the Ba Long war zone (formerly Quang Tri province), the 6th Infantry Regiment was established. And October 10, 1965, marked a historic milestone, becoming the unit's traditional day. Over the past 60 years, under the leadership of the Party, the Army, and the local government, the 6th Regiment has always received the care, protection, love, and assistance of the people. Generations of officers and soldiers of the Regiment have inscribed brilliant milestones and many glorious victories in its golden history. In particular, the unit made a great contribution, paving the way for the great victory of Spring 1975."
Joining the group, and observing the attentive gazes of the new recruits as they focused on each artifact, listening to each story connected to the heroic traditions of the Phu Xuan Regiment, we suddenly understood how excited these young soldiers were to study and train here. “Being able to study and train in a unit with such a rich tradition – the heroic 6th Regiment – makes us feel very proud and excited; we pledge to strive our best, diligently study and train, and successfully complete all assigned tasks, contributing to building a stronger and more robust unit,” shared Private Dang Van Thanh.
According to the Political Commissar of Regiment 6, with its outstanding achievements over the past 60 years, the Regiment has been awarded 4 Military Merit Orders by the Party and the State, received the flag "Attack, Uprising, Heroic, Resilient" from the Tri Thien National Liberation Front, and was named "Phu Xuan Regiment"; in September 1973, the regiment was honored as a Hero of the People's Armed Forces...
Standing side-by-side with the people in times of difficulty.
Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Bao Lan, Regiment Commander, shared: "With the fighting tradition of 'The more we fight, the stronger we become; the more we fight, the greater our victories,' as a key unit of the Hue City Military Command, the unit is always ready for combat, organizing training for new recruits, registering and managing reserve mobilization, and training Category 3 personnel, ready to mobilize to participate in disaster prevention and mitigation, search and rescue operations. The quality of training, exercises, combat readiness capabilities, building a regular army, and discipline enforcement are constantly improving."
Alongside training and combat readiness, the unit mobilized thousands of man-days of officers and soldiers to cooperate with local communities in building new rural areas; participating in forest fire fighting and helping people overcome the consequences of storms and floods in key areas. The image of the "Uncle Ho's Duo" (referring to the two soldiers of the regiment) always being present to help people minimize damage caused by natural disasters, demonstrating the spirit of "standing side by side with the people in difficult times," always leaves a positive and deep impression in the minds of the people.
To live up to the prestigious title of hero, the officers and soldiers of Regiment 6 are determined to build a comprehensively strong regiment with a regular, elite, and modern standing force; a powerful reserve force; good management and training; readiness to receive and excellently complete all assigned tasks; worthy of the prestigious title: Infantry Regiment 6 - Heroic Phu Xuan Regiment.
