On the morning of May 26 in Ho Chi Minh City, the Vietnam Game Festival - Vietnam GameVerse 2025 was officially opened. The event was organized by the Department of Radio, Television and Electronic Information in coordination with VnExpress Newspaper, FPT Online Services Joint Stock Company and Vietnam Game Alliance.

For the first time, "5 game universes" converge

Mr. Le Quang Tu Do - Director of the Department of Radio, Television and Electronic Information (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) said he was very moved to have the opportunity to meet tens of thousands of young game lovers, units, organizations, businesses and publishers for the third time.

Mr. Do mentioned the development of Vietnam GameVerse after three years, witnessing records. He repeatedly mentioned "first time." For the first time, the event had a scale of more than 100 booths, double that of 2024. For the first time, multinational corporations from the US, Korea, and China all came to participate in the event, connecting with domestic businesses and communities. For the first time, management agencies from Korea, the Korean Game Management Committee paid attention to the Vietnam festival, and 5 foreign press agencies were present to report on the event.

Mr. Tu Do also emphasized that this is the first time that "5 game universes" have converged: the State, publishers, manufacturers, investors, and schools. These factors create a synergistic strength for the Vietnamese game industry to reach far.

"All of this proves that Vietnam GameVerse and Vietnam have become the world 's destination in the gaming industry," he said.

Mr. Giuseppe Stasolla - Director of Southeast Asia Ecosystem, Google Play, commented that Vietnam is emerging as the world's leading potential market in the field of game development.

According to a Google representative, Vietnam currently holds the No. 1 position globally in terms of game downloads on Google Play, with 6.1 billion downloads in 2024, equivalent to more than 11,600 downloads per minute. This is a clear demonstration of the attraction and strong development of the gaming industry in the domestic market.

On average, every minute, users in Vietnam download more than 11,600 applications and games from Google Play. According to a Google representative, this number reflects the strong growth potential of the gaming industry in Vietnam - a field that is rising to become a billion-dollar industry.

A Google representative said that domestic publishers are increasingly investing in product quality, targeting both domestic and international markets. In 2024, revenue from international users for Vietnamese game developers will reach more than VND2,000 billion.

"However, this is not the final limit," Mr. Giuseppe emphasized. In order for the Vietnamese gaming industry to develop sustainably and exploit its full potential, he said it is necessary to focus on three main pillars: product quality, business efficiency and sustainable development.

In addition, artificial intelligence (AI) is considered a revolutionary factor for this creative industry. Mr. Giuseppe analyzed that generative AI (Gen AI) is helping publishers shorten the production process, from ideation, character design to product testing. "Gen AI not only improves the speed of game development but also opens up many opportunities for revenue growth, especially through personalizing player experiences and creative content marketing," he said.

Values ​​from the gaming industry

Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Bao - General Director of VTC Corporation said at the event that if oriented correctly, games have the role of connecting culture. If only chasing quantity and business, units will lack cooperation and connection. To create qualitative change, units must go through a process of accumulation in quantity, with a common goal of bringing domestic games to the world.

The game creates an immersive space with images, sounds, and active interaction with cultural elements. This is something that movies and music cannot do. Each time you play, it is a different context, creating diversity in the way you interact. The player is the one who actively explores the elements embedded in each context.

VTC representative cited global figures, games have revenue of 188 billion USD, while total revenue from music and movies is only about 60 billion USD. Thus, games have a greater value than both music and movies.

In terms of sports alone, eSport is a trend that helps convey culture in a creative way. Mr. Bao cited the example of the game Audition, which has existed for more than 20 years, helping players access music, making the dancing dreams of millions of people come true through the digital environment.

Mr. Bao cited a typical example from Korea, where the country's unique culture is strongly spread through games, movies, and music. Games are considered a strategy for spreading and preserving culture. In China, Black Myth Wukong created a global buzz. "Cultural values ​​are persistently spread through updates throughout the life cycle of a game," said the VTC leader.

In the Vietnamese market, the potential for cultural dissemination is huge with 50 million gamers and top 5 revenue in Southeast Asia. Our country has a cultural treasure spanning 4,000 years of history but has not been properly exploited. Mr. Bao likened this to a giant "Tang Kinh Cac".

Therefore, to exploit this, Mr. Bao proposed to research and develop a National Strategy on "Vietnamese Cultural Games"; open support funds for startups developing cultural games to promote and encourage; create national game IPs inspired by Vietnamese history and legends.

Mr. Bao affirmed that games should be viewed as a "heritage," acting as a bridge between the past and the digital generation. "We must assign the task of making Vietnamese games a 'digital bridge' between tradition and the future," Mr. Bao said.

One of the highlights of Vietnam GameVerse 2025 this year is the announcements and cooperation signings from domestic and foreign game units and businesses.
