Viettel successfully auctions 700MHz band, promoting 4G and 5G network deployment

This is the fourth time Viettel has participated in the auction of this frequency band. Owning the 713–723MHz and 768–778MHz frequency blocks is of particular importance in the strategy of expanding coverage to 99% of the population by 2030. With the characteristics of long-distance transmission and good wall penetration, the B2 - B2' frequency block of the 700MHz band will help provide effective coverage in rural, mountainous, island areas as well as high-rise buildings in urban areas.

Viettel aims to complete the construction of over 20,000 5G broadcasting stations before December 31, 2025.

According to technical research, the coverage radius on this frequency block is 1.8 times larger than that of the 1,800 MHz band, helping Viettel optimize deployment costs many times over, saving thousands of billions compared to using current frequency bands when handling difficult-to-cover areas, while improving and enhancing user experience. This is the frequency block planned by the Ministry of Science and Technology to deploy mobile information systems according to the IMT-Advanced (4G) standard and subsequent versions.

Major General Tao Duc Thang, Chairman and General Director of Viettel Group, shared: “Owning the B2 - B2' frequency block of the 700MHz band in this auction is extremely important and timely for Viettel to realize Resolution No. 57 of the Politburo , aiming to build a high-speed, safe, reliable digital infrastructure platform, connecting people, authorities, businesses, accelerating the application of digital technologies in all aspects of social life, from urban to rural areas”.

On this frequency platform, Viettel will deploy high-speed, low-latency 4G/5G services, serving online learning, working, entertainment and Internet of Things (IoT), applied in areas such as smart cities, smart agriculture , smart transportation, etc.

Viettel aims to deploy more than 20,000 5G broadcasting stations by the end of 2025, developing a 5G network with leading coverage and quality in Vietnam.

According to Mr. Le Van Tuan, Director of the Department of Frequency (Ministry of Science and Technology), this successful auction is an important premise to promote digital equality, bringing advanced technology to people from urban to rural, mountainous, island, remote and isolated areas. The Ministry of Science and Technology will continue to auction the remaining blocks of the 700 MHz band. The goal is to support the ability to cover mobile information over a wide area, especially in rural and mountainous areas, while improving the quality of indoor coverage in urban areas.

Mr. Le Van Tuan said that owning this frequency band is not only a strategic opportunity to expand coverage, moving towards effective deployment of 4G and 5G networks, but also contributes to the development of national digital infrastructure. This frequency band coming into operation will contribute to improving the quality of national digital infrastructure, creating a foundation for a comprehensive digital transformation process.
