The new generation VF 8 (listed price 999 million VND) shows a notable shift in how VinFast views the role of a strategic electric SUV model.

While the first-generation VF 8 was positioned as the "face" of the ambition to conquer America and Europe with its pioneering design, the new VF 8 is more practical, approachable, and geared more towards real-world usage needs.
This is understandable given VinFast's strong shift towards a mass green transportation strategy in Vietnam and several developing markets such as Indonesia and India.

The most notable aspect of the new VF 8 is that it no longer inherits much from the first generation VF 8. While the old VF 8 was created as a product that made a strong impression with its technology, design, and global ambitions, the new VF 8 feels like an electric SUV that has been "tamed" to better suit everyday needs.

This philosophy is clearly reflected in every detail of the new car. The front end no longer has the elaborate structure of the previous version, but instead uses a wide, glossy black grille along with the familiar wing-shaped LED lights. This design is easier to repair from minor scratches caused by urban collisions.

The cockpit also shows a shift towards practicality. The new VF 8's interior features a minimalist style, focusing on everyday use with a 12.9-inch central screen, dual-zone automatic climate control with integrated Combi 1.0 air filter, and an 8-speaker sound system. These are all features strongly geared towards families and mainstream urban users.

In terms of operation, the new VF 8 uses an electric motor with a maximum power of 170kW (228 hp), 330Nm of torque, and 3 driving modes: Economy, Normal, and Sport .
Although not as performance-oriented as many early VinFast electric vehicle models, this configuration is considered more suitable for practical urban use. The 60.13kWh battery pack allows the vehicle to travel nearly 500km on a single charge according to the NEDC standard, and also supports fast charging from 10-70% in less than 30 minutes.

From a user's perspective, the new VF 8 is clearly no longer the choice for those who enjoy exhilarating driving experiences, but rather for those who want a more mature and sophisticated everyday family car. It will be a superior option compared to the VF 6 and will offer a distinct style from the VF 7, which maintained its stylish image and focused on the driving experience.

Thus, the new VF 8 will compete quite fiercely with rivals such as the Mazda CX-5, Hyundai Tucson, Toyota Corolla Cross, etc. With emission reduction policies becoming increasingly imminent, this all-electric model is attracting even more attention. Of course, free charging is also a major advantage.

Reportedly, from the early morning of May 27th, VinFast also began accepting deposits for the new VF 8 at a rate of 15 million VND (non-refundable and non-cancellable). According to the manufacturer, the car will be offered with a discount of 51 million VND per vehicle for the first 8 days (until June 3rd), and delivery is expected from the end of July.

It could be said that the new VF 8 is no longer just an electric SUV "to prove what VinFast can do" as before. Instead, it's a model that shows the Vietnamese automaker has a clearer understanding of what it needs to sell to the mass market in the new era of green transportation, and is actively pursuing these goals.
