Vingegaard explodes in Stage 16 of the Giro d'Italia
Stage 16 of the international cycling race covered a distance of 113km. The riders traveled across the border from Bellinzona to Cari.
Jonas Vingegaard was the reigning Pink Jersey holder from the previous stage. Therefore, the Visma Lease a Bike team had to carefully consider their strategy. However, they didn't opt for a safe, defensive approach. Instead, they took an aggressive stance from the start, consistently increasing their speed throughout the race. This tactic aimed to put significant pressure on their competitors and, moreover, helped Vingegaard achieve his goal of winning the stage while wearing the Pink Jersey.

Vinegaard finished first and retained the prestigious Pink Jersey.
The familiar scenario unfolded again at the final pass. With nearly 7km to the finish line, superstar Vingegaard began his attack. He accelerated powerfully, leaving his rivals completely helpless. As a result, the Danish rider easily crossed the finish line first. This was his fourth stage victory in this year's race.
He finished 69 seconds ahead of second-place finisher Felix Gall. Jai Hindley crossed the finish line two seconds later. This propelled Gall to second place overall. However, he was still more than four minutes behind Vingegaard. This gap virtually guaranteed Vingegaard the championship.
Conversely, Afonso Eulálio had a very forgettable day. The former Pink Jersey winner ran out of steam in the decisive climb. Moreover, he finished more than 3 minutes behind Vingegaard. As a result, Eulálio dropped from 2nd to 5th place overall. The race ended with a huge advantage for Visma Lease a Bike.
