In Spain, striker Vinicius was subjected to racist abuse, lost his temper, and received a red card for a foul in the seventh minute of added time during Real Madrid's 0-1 defeat to Valencia in La Liga's 35th round.

According to Spanish newspaper Marca , Vinicius began to lose his temper and pointed at those making racist remarks on the Mestalla pitch. The Brazilian striker also complained about the incident to referee De Burgos Bengoetxea, who then spoke to Valencia coach Ruben Baraja and the person authorized on the pitch to broadcast a message via the public address system calling for an end to the insults.

Mr. Bengoetxea implemented the new rule, which risked suspending the match. FIFA recently changed the rules to allow referees to suspend or even cancel matches due to racist incidents.

On the first occasion, De Burgos requested that an announcement be made over the loudspeakers to stop the insults and throwing objects onto the pitch. Shortly after, Vinicius denounced a specific spectator, causing the Mestalla stadium's public address system to replay the message. A third warning meant the match would be temporarily suspended. At that point, De Burgos reassured the Real Madrid striker. "Trust me, next time we'll leave the pitch," he told Vinicius.

However, the 22-year-old striker lost his temper and punched Hugo Duro in the face during a scuffle between players from both teams in the seventh minute of added time. The referee initially showed a yellow card, but changed it to a red card after consulting VAR. As he left the pitch, Vinicius raised two fingers towards the stands where unruly fans were gathered, implying that Valencia were likely to be relegated next season.

After the match, Vinicius wrote on Instagram : "The reward for the racists is getting me a red card. This isn't football, this is La Liga. This isn't the first, second, or third time. Racism is normal in La Liga. Opponents think it's normal, so the organizers and teams encourage it."

According to Vinicius, La Liga was once admired for having outstanding players like Ronaldinho, Ronaldo de Lima, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Lionel Messi, but now "belongs to racists." He continued: "Sorry to those Spaniards who disagree, but today in Brazil, Spain is known as the country of racists. And unfortunately, with everything that happens every week, I have no way to stop it. But I am strong and I will do everything I can to fight against racists, even if I am very far from here."

In the post-match press conference, coach Carlo Ancelotti said he had spoken to Vinicius but did not want to substitute him just because of the racist remarks. According to the Italian coach, the referee should have been stricter and stopped the match.
