VNNIC and Ho Chi Minh City Department of Science and Technology cooperate to set a target of 420,000 businesses using the national domain name '.vn'

Vietnam Internet Network Information Center (VNNIC) and the Department of Science and Technology of Ho Chi Minh City have officially signed a cooperation agreement "Coordination to strengthen the management and development of internet resources in Ho Chi Minh City", setting the goal of deploying national domain names for about 420,000 operating businesses, considering this as the focus of digital economic development.

VNNIC signed a memorandum of cooperation with the Department of Science and Technology of Ho Chi Minh City

As of June 2025, Ho Chi Minh City is the capital of the country's ".vn" domain name resources, managing 227,248 ".vn" domain names, accounting for more than 36% of the total ".vn" domain name resources of the whole country, affirming its role as the heart of coordinating Vietnam's digital economy .

In particular, about 420,000 operating businesses are assessed as ready for digital transformation. The goal is to deploy national domain names for all of these businesses, enough to become the main driving force for the development of the digital economy and digital society in the city.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Mr. Do Quang Trung, Head of the Vietnam Internet Center branch in Ho Chi Minh City, said that the national domain name ".vn" is a tool to affirm Vietnam's digital brand and sovereignty on the Internet and is sponsored and legally protected by the State. VNNIC commits to closely, responsibly and flexibly coordinate to ensure effective implementation of cooperation contents, jointly carry out communication activities, training, technical consultation and connect the local business community to have an online presence with the national domain name ".vn".

Specifically, the signing of cooperation between VNNIC and the Department of Science and Technology of Ho Chi Minh City focuses on four pillars of action for the digital economy. These are modernizing the infrastructure by promoting a comprehensive transition to IPv6 (the next generation of internet protocol); creating digital identities and brands through the domain names ".vn" and "id.vn"; enriching infrastructure data by widely popularizing i-Speed; and developing digital human resources to build a team of architects for the digital economy.

At the same time, raise awareness among the community, people, businesses, and business households through communication work, popularizing legal regulations on the website about the benefits and requirements to ensure safety in registering and using national internet resources, especially the national domain name ".vn", serving online activities in a reliable and sustainable manner.

The ultimate goal is to improve the city's key indicators such as the e-commerce index (EBI), digital transformation index (DTI), and creative innovation index (GII), while developing digital infrastructure, promoting the digital economy and digital society.

Besides developing the ".vn" domain name, at the Signing Ceremony, delegates presented many opinions related to maintaining and developing the internet platform in Vietnam.

Mr. Nguyen Huu Yen, Deputy Director of the Department of Science and Technology of Ho Chi Minh City, emphasized the importance of IPv6 as a platform to expand cyberspace and support the development of the Internet of Things (IoT) as well as new technologies. The transition to IPv6 not only solves the problem of IP address scarcity but also enhances network security, meeting international commitments on information security.

A positive signal given at the ceremony was that 168 wards, communes and special zones in Ho Chi Minh City have begun to pay attention to setting up an electronic information page. This is considered a golden opportunity to promote standardization and synchronization of the system, ensuring connectivity and smooth operation between the local government and the people.

This cooperation agreement marks an important turning point in Ho Chi Minh City's digital transformation strategy. The success of this agreement not only benefits Ho Chi Minh City but also creates a positive ripple effect, contributing to promoting the digital transformation process nationwide. This is a step in line with the city's aspiration to "create a sustainable digital era".

The Vietnamese national domain name ".vn" is managed by the Vietnam Internet Center - Ministry of Science and Technology, providing a clear and solid legal framework, helping businesses resolve disputes over domain name ownership legally, preventing counterfeiting or fraudulent acts aimed at appropriating trademarks.
Unlike international domain names that can be revoked or encounter complicated legal issues, .vn domain names provide greater stability and security for businesses' online operations.
