VNPT receives GSMA Open Gateway certification for its SMS OTP security service.

Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) announced today that it has officially received GSMA Open Gateway certification for its One-Time Password SMS (SMS OTP) service, marking a significant milestone in enhancing identity authentication services and secure digital transactions in Vietnam and the region.

The information was officially announced at the GSMA Digital Nation Summit Hanoi 2026 event held on May 26th.

The certified SMS OTP API service enables businesses to deploy secure, stable, and scalable authentication solutions across various sectors such as finance, e-commerce, and digital platforms. This aligns with GSMA's goal of building an open API ecosystem capable of interoperability between carriers globally.

Mr. Nguyen Dang Thang, Director of VNPT FinTech Center, represented VNPT in receiving the GSMA Open Gateway certification for the SMS OTP security service.

For VNPT, this certification marks a significant shift from providing authentication services based on domestic telecommunications infrastructure to providing API capabilities according to international standards, helping businesses and digital platforms easily integrate and deploy across multiple markets.

Julian Gorman, Director of GSMA's Asia-Pacific region, commented: “VNPT's certification is a positive sign, demonstrating Vietnam's pioneering role in promoting Open Gateway deployment in the Asia-Pacific region. Certified APIs play a crucial role in building trust and promoting interoperability between network operators on a large scale.”

GSMA Open Gateway Certification is an accreditation program designed to ensure that network operators and API providers deploy standardized APIs that comply with the CAMARA standards and specifications. The program aims to promote interoperability and consistency between systems, enabling developers to deploy services globally.

Achieving certification also enables VNPT to participate in the cross-border API integration ecosystem, opening up more opportunities for the company to integrate authentication services across multiple markets through a unified platform.

This announcement follows last year's event where major Vietnamese network operators signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to participate in the GSMA Open Gateway initiative, aiming to combat online fraud, enhance identity verification, and promote the development of a safe and innovative digital ecosystem in Vietnam.

Vietnamese mobile network operators, including VNPT, have agreed to collaborate on building a standardized platform to enhance interoperability and promote digital transformation through the GSMA Open Gateway initiative using CAMARA APIs (Application Programming Interfaces). Currently, more than 300 mobile networks, representing over 80% of global mobile connectivity, are participating in this initiative, contributing to the formation of a connected ecosystem between developers, system integrators, and network operators worldwide , delivering new value to both businesses and end users.

By transforming telecommunications infrastructure into developer-ready platforms, this initiative is supporting the digital finance, e-commerce, and digital services sectors through a range of innovative solutions. Linking APIs across carriers enables businesses to deploy services faster, scale across multiple networks synchronously, and increase access to international markets.
